  • Death of the Pastor’s Wife True Story: What Really Happened to Mica Miller?

Death of the Pastor’s Wife True Story: What Really Happened to Mica Miller?

Netflix has another true-crime documentary that viewers cannot stop talking about.

But Death of the Pastor’s Wife is not simply a murder mystery.

It is the story of Mica Miller, a 30-year-old woman whose death in April 2024 drew national attention after disturbing allegations about her marriage, stalking, coercive control, and her attempts to leave her husband became public.

Netflix’s three-part documentary examines Mica’s life, her marriage to South Carolina pastor John-Paul “JP” Miller, and the events leading up to her death.

And since the documentary arrived on Netflix, viewers have been asking the same questions:

What really happened to Mica Miller?

Was anyone charged in her death?

What happened to her husband, JP Miller?

    Where is he now?

    And perhaps most importantly:

Why did Mica’s attempts to get help fail to protect her?

Here is what we know about the true story behind Netflix’s Death of the Pastor’s Wife.

    Who Was Mica Miller?

Mica Miller was a 30-year-old woman from South Carolina who was closely connected to Solid Rock Church in Myrtle Beach.

She was known for singing and performing in church and eventually married the church’s pastor, John-Paul Miller.

But behind the public image of a pastor and his wife, Mica’s family and friends say something very different was happening.

According to Netflix, the documentary reconstructs their relationship using Mica’s own:

    • journals,
    • text messages,
    • performance footage,
    • police reports,
    • medical records,
    • interviews with friends and family,
    • and JP Miller’s sermons and messages.

Netflix says those materials portray a relationship that people close to Mica described as involving years of coercive control and alleged abuse.

    This distinction is important.

Some claims shown in the documentary remain allegations, while other events are supported by police reports, court documents or later federal charges.

    What Happened to Mica Miller?

On April 27, 2024, Mica Miller was found dead at Lumber River State Park in North Carolina.

She had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Authorities ruled her death a suicide.

But one detail immediately made the case attract enormous attention.

Mica died only two days after serving her husband with divorce papers.

That fact alone does not establish that anyone else was responsible for her death.

But as information about the months preceding her death emerged, the public began asking much more difficult questions.

Mica Had Said She Was Afraid for Her Life

One of the most disturbing elements of the case occurred before Mica died.

According to Netflix, approximately one month before her death, Mica told police that she was:

    “afraid for her life.”

She had also alleged that she was the victim of stalking.

The documentary examines allegations that Mica experienced harassment and coercive control while trying to separate from JP Miller.

Friends and relatives interviewed for the series describe a woman who was attempting to regain control over her life.

That context is one reason her story did not disappear after authorities ruled her death a suicide.

Why Did Mica Miller’s Death Become a National Story?

Initially, the basic facts appeared straightforward.

Mica died from a gunshot wound.

    Authorities investigated.

Her death was ruled a suicide.

But the story quickly became much larger because of what surfaced afterward.

Her family, friends and others began publicly discussing what Mica had allegedly experienced during her marriage.

Police records and other materials revealed previous reports involving alleged harassment and stalking.

Netflix’s documentary now brings many of those pieces together.

The filmmakers say the question that stayed with them was how hard Mica appeared to have been fighting to be heard before her death.

That has also become one of the dominant reactions among viewers.

Was JP Miller Charged With Mica Miller’s Death?

This is one of the most important facts to understand.

    No.

John-Paul Miller has not been charged in connection with Mica Miller’s death.

Authorities ruled her death a suicide.

However, JP Miller later faced completely separate federal charges related to his alleged conduct toward Mica before her death.

    That distinction matters enormously.

JP has pleaded not guilty to those federal charges.

What Was JP Miller Charged With?

In December 2025, a federal grand jury indicted John-Paul Miller on two counts.

According to Netflix’s summary of the case, the first charge involves:

    Cyberstalking.

Federal prosecutors allege that JP engaged in a pattern of harassment against Mica beginning in November 2022 and continuing until her death.

    The allegations include conduct involving:

    • repeated messages and phone calls,
    • tracking,
    • an intimate photograph,
    • and interference involving her vehicle.

    The second charge involves:

Making false statements to federal investigators.

JP Miller has pleaded not guilty.

His federal case was subsequently delayed, with the trial scheduled for the October 2026 term at the time of Netflix’s latest update.

Again, these charges are not charges for Mica’s death.

That distinction should not be blurred.

    Where Is JP Miller Now?

This has quickly become one of the biggest questions surrounding the Netflix series.

According to Netflix’s August 2026 update, JP Miller remains free on bond while awaiting his federal trial.

But several other things have changed dramatically.

The original Solid Rock Church property has been sold.

Netflix reports that JP continues preaching to a much smaller congregation at temporary locations around Myrtle Beach.

And there is another development that has surprised many viewers.

    JP Miller remarried.

Who Is JP Miller’s New Wife?

JP Miller married Suzie Skinner in June 2025, a little over a year after Mica’s death.

Netflix reports that Skinner has participated in worship with the congregation where JP continues to preach.

This has generated considerable discussion among viewers of the documentary.

But it is important to separate public reaction from established facts.

A documentary can generate suspicion and debate.

That does not change the legal status of a case.

Why Is Reddit Exploding Over Death of the Pastor’s Wife?

The reaction on Reddit gives us an interesting picture of what viewers are taking away from the documentary.

And surprisingly, much of the discussion isn’t centered only on the circumstances of Mica’s death.

    Viewers are talking about:

    coercive control

    religious authority

why people around Mica didn’t intervene earlier

how abuse can be hidden behind a respectable public image

    and

whether existing laws adequately protect someone trying to leave a controlling relationship.

One r/netflix discussion about the documentary received roughly 944 upvotes, while a dedicated NetflixDocumentaries megathread drew hundreds of votes and extensive discussion.

The documentary has clearly struck a nerve.

Reddit Viewers Keep Asking: How Could This Continue for So Long?

    One recurring reaction is disbelief.

Viewers repeatedly question how warning signs could apparently exist while the situation continued.

Some Reddit users focus particularly on sermons shown in the documentary and question why members of the congregation did not react more strongly to what was being said publicly.

Others focus on Mica’s attempts to seek help.

And some viewers who say they have experienced controlling religious environments themselves have described the documentary as painfully familiar.

    These reactions are anecdotal.

They do not prove anything about the criminal case.

But they explain why the documentary has generated such intense discussion.

    Viewers aren’t merely asking:

    “How did Mica die?”

    They’re asking:

“How could a situation like this develop in public without someone successfully stopping it?”

That is a much bigger question.

The Documentary Is Really About Coercive Control

This may be the most important theme in Death of the Pastor’s Wife.

Coercive control does not necessarily look like a single dramatic act.

Instead, it can involve a pattern of behavior designed to gradually control another person.

That can include things such as:

    financial control,

    monitoring,

    isolation,

    threats,

    humiliation,

    repeated unwanted contact,

or controlling access to everyday life.

The documentary argues that understanding Mica’s story requires looking at the broader pattern of what she said she was experiencing rather than examining one event in isolation.

That is also why Mica’s family has become involved in efforts to change the law.

    What Is “Mica’s Law”?

After Mica’s death, her family advocated for legislation aimed at addressing coercive control in South Carolina.

The proposal became widely known as Mica’s Law.

The effort sought to strengthen legal recognition of patterns of controlling behavior rather than requiring authorities to view incidents only as isolated events.

The legislation did not pass earlier in 2026, according to Netflix.

Mica’s family has continued advocating for reform.

This may ultimately become one of the most lasting consequences of Mica’s story.

What Happened to Solid Rock Church?

Solid Rock Church was central to Mica and JP’s story.

It was not simply JP’s workplace.

It was part of the environment in which their relationship developed and where both were highly visible.

But the original church property is no longer operating as it once did.

According to Netflix, the Solid Rock Church building and grounds have been sold.

JP nevertheless continues preaching to a small congregation in temporary locations around Myrtle Beach.

For viewers who finish the documentary wondering whether JP simply disappeared after Mica’s death, the answer is no.

Why Death of the Pastor’s Wife Is Different From a Typical Netflix True-Crime Series

Netflix has become famous for true-crime documentaries built around a central mystery:

    Who did it?

    What evidence was missed?

    Will the suspect be convicted?

But Death of the Pastor’s Wife is somewhat different.

Authorities have already ruled Mica’s death a suicide.

JP Miller has not been charged with causing her death.

The unresolved story instead concerns what happened before Mica died.

    What did she experience?

    What warning signs existed?

    What help did she seek?

Could anything have been done differently?

And what happens when a person says they are afraid but the situation does not fit neatly into a single criminal incident?

That makes the documentary less of a conventional “whodunit” and more of a story about the systems surrounding a person trying to escape a deeply troubled relationship.

Why the Netflix Documentary Is So Difficult to Watch

Reddit reaction repeatedly uses words like:

    angry

    heartbroken

    frustrated

    and

    disturbed.

One major discussion in r/netflix accumulated hundreds of upvotes as viewers reacted emotionally to JP’s sermons and the allegations described in the documentary.

Another discussion focused less on JP and more on Mica herself, with viewers arguing that she should be remembered as more than simply “the pastor’s wife.”

That may explain why this series is generating unusually persistent discussion.

Mica isn’t presented merely as the subject of a crime documentary.

    Viewers hear her voice.

    They see her performances.

They read portions of what she wrote.

And they watch the events leading toward an ending they already know is coming.

That makes the story especially difficult.

The Biggest Questions Viewers Still Have

Even after watching all three episodes, many viewers leave with questions.

    Why wasn’t Mica better protected?

This is perhaps the largest question raised by the documentary.

Why did she die only two days after serving divorce papers?

The timing is striking, but timing alone does not establish criminal responsibility.

Was anyone charged with causing her death?

    No.

Her death was ruled a suicide, and JP Miller has not been charged in connection with her death.

Then why is JP facing federal charges?

The charges concern alleged cyberstalking and alleged false statements to federal investigators, not Mica’s death.

    Is the legal story over?

    No.

As of Netflix’s latest update, JP’s federal trial is scheduled for the October 2026 term.

And that means public interest in this case may rise again very soon.

Death of the Pastor’s Wife Timeline

August 26, 2026Netflix releases Death of the Pastor’s Wife
October 2026Current scheduled term for JP Miller’s federal trial

The upcoming trial is particularly important from a search perspective.

The Netflix series has introduced millions of viewers to the story.

Now there is another real-world event approaching.

That means interest may not disappear when viewers finish Episode 3.

Is Death of the Pastor’s Wife Worth Watching?

For true-crime viewers, yes — but this isn’t light entertainment.

The series deals with allegations of abuse, stalking, coercive control, intimate-image abuse, mental-health issues, and suicide.

Some viewers may find those subjects extremely difficult.

But the documentary also provides an important perspective often missing from sensational true-crime storytelling:

    What happens before tragedy?

    The warning signs.

    The attempts to leave.

    The attempts to be heard.

And the people left afterward asking what could have been different.

What Happens Next in the Mica Miller Case?

This is the part viewers should watch closely.

JP Miller’s federal case has not concluded.

As of the latest information published by Netflix, his trial is scheduled for the October 2026 term.

He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

Meanwhile, Mica’s family continues working to preserve her memory and advocate for stronger recognition of coercive control.

So despite Netflix releasing the documentary more than two years after Mica’s death:

    this story is not over.

And the next major chapter could arrive within weeks.

Where Is JP Miller Now? The Short Answer

For viewers arriving here after finishing Netflix:

JP Miller is alive and remains free on bond.

    He has remarried.

The original Solid Rock Church property has been sold.

He reportedly continues preaching to a small congregation.

He has pleaded not guilty to federal cyberstalking and false-statement charges.

He has not been charged in connection with Mica Miller’s death.

His federal trial is currently scheduled for the October 2026 term.

Those distinctions are important because online discussion often mixes allegations, criminal charges and speculation together.

They are not the same thing.

Final Thoughts: Why Mica Miller’s Story Is Resonating

The reason Death of the Pastor’s Wife is generating so much discussion may not be the mystery surrounding Mica’s final day.

It may be everything that happened before it.

Netflix’s documentary presents a woman who, according to those closest to her, was increasingly trying to make herself heard and escape a relationship she described as frightening and controlling.

That has led viewers to ask a question much larger than one Netflix documentary:

What happens when someone repeatedly says they are afraid, but the systems around them still fail to make them feel safe?

Mica Miller died on April 27, 2024.

But more than two years later, the legal proceedings surrounding allegations against her estranged husband continue.

So does her family’s campaign for change.

And now, because of Netflix, millions of people who had never heard Mica’s name are discovering her story.

The title of the documentary calls her “the pastor’s wife.”

But perhaps the strongest reaction from viewers is that she deserves to be remembered by her own name:

    Mica Miller.

This article discusses suicide and alleged domestic abuse. If you or someone you know is in immediate danger or experiencing abuse, contact local emergency services or an appropriate domestic-violence support organization in your country.

  • Why Is Snowflake Stock Surging? SNOW Jumps as AI Growth Explodes

Why Is Snowflake Stock Surging? SNOW Jumps as AI Growth Explodes

Snowflake stock is suddenly one of the hottest AI software trades on Wall Street.

Shares of Snowflake (NYSE: SNOW) surged more than 20% following the company’s latest earnings report after revenue growth accelerated, earnings beat expectations, and management raised its full-year outlook.

But the most important part of the Snowflake earnings report may not be the stock-price jump.

It is what the results say about artificial intelligence.

For months, investors have debated a major question:

Will AI destroy traditional software companies—or make the strongest data platforms even more valuable?

Snowflake’s latest results gave Wall Street a powerful argument for the second scenario.

    Revenue accelerated.

    AI product adoption increased.

    Customers spent more.

And management said AI contributed roughly half of the recent acceleration in growth.

So why is Snowflake stock surging?

And after such a large move, is SNOW becoming one of the biggest enterprise AI winners?

    Let’s look at the numbers.

    Snowflake Stock: What Happened?

Snowflake reported fiscal second-quarter 2027 results on September 2, 2026.

The numbers were significantly stronger than investors expected.

    Q2 FY2027Result
    Total Revenue$1.55 billion
    Revenue Growth+35% YoY
    Product Revenue$1.49 billion
    Product Revenue Growth+37% YoY
    Adjusted EPS$0.62
    Remaining Performance Obligations$9.0 billion
    Net Revenue Retention126%

Snowflake’s product revenue growth is particularly important.

It accelerated to 37% year over year.

That’s not what investors normally expect from a large cloud software company whose growth was previously slowing.

Snowflake’s investor-relations data also shows $9 billion in remaining performance obligations (RPO) and 828 customers generating more than $1 million in trailing 12-month product revenue.

Those numbers help explain why Wall Street reacted so strongly.

    1. Snowflake Revenue Growth Is Accelerating Again

This may be the single most important number in the entire report.

Snowflake exited fiscal 2026 with product revenue growth around 30%.

    Now it has reached:

    37% growth.

Snowflake CEO Sridhar Ramaswamy emphasized that the company has added roughly seven percentage points of growth acceleration in just two quarters.

    That’s unusual.

Large software companies generally experience the opposite pattern.

They grow extremely quickly when they’re smaller, then growth gradually slows as the revenue base becomes larger.

    Snowflake is currently showing acceleration.

And investors want to know why.

The answer increasingly appears to be:

    AI.

    2. AI Is Starting to Generate Real Business for Snowflake

This is where the Snowflake story becomes much more interesting.

AI has been one of the biggest themes in the stock market for years.

But investors are increasingly asking companies a harder question:

    Where is the actual revenue?

Snowflake is beginning to provide an answer.

Management said AI-related products accounted for roughly half of the acceleration in growth during the quarter.

    That is a critical distinction.

Snowflake isn’t simply putting “AI” into presentations.

Customers using AI products are consuming more of Snowflake’s underlying data infrastructure.

And that creates a potentially powerful business cycle.

    3. Snowflake Has an AI Flywheel

Think about what a company needs before it can deploy artificial intelligence.

    It needs data.

    Usually, enormous amounts of it.

But enterprise data is often scattered across:

    different databases,

    cloud providers,

    applications,

    departments,

    and legacy systems.

Snowflake’s core business is helping companies organize, store, analyze and use that data.

    Now add AI.

Companies want AI models and autonomous agents to work with their proprietary business information.

That can increase the amount of data being processed through Snowflake.

    The cycle potentially becomes:

    More enterprise data

    ↓

    More AI applications

    ↓

    More Snowflake usage

    ↓

    More data consumption

    ↓

    More revenue

Snowflake’s CEO described this dynamic as a powerful business “flywheel” that is accelerating.

That’s one reason investors suddenly became more optimistic.

    4. Snowflake’s AI Products Are Growing Fast

Two names investors should know are:

    CoCo

    and

    CoWork.

Snowflake CoCo is an AI coding agent designed to help developers build and work with data and AI applications.

CoWork is aimed more broadly at knowledge workers and enterprise AI tasks.

Snowflake has been aggressively expanding both products as part of its move toward what it calls the agentic enterprise.

The company officially launched and expanded these products during 2026 as part of its broader AI Data Cloud strategy.

    Adoption has been fast.

According to reporting following the earnings release, approximately 63% of Snowflake customers were already using CoCo only a few quarters after launch.

That matters because AI adoption is moving from experimental pilots toward actual enterprise workloads.

    5. Snowflake Beat Wall Street Expectations

The headline earnings numbers were also strong.

    Snowflake reported adjusted EPS of:

    $0.62

    Wall Street had expected approximately:

    $0.45.

    Revenue reached approximately:

    $1.55 billion

    versus Wall Street expectations around:

    $1.48 billion.

Revenue increased roughly 35% year over year.

This wasn’t merely an AI narrative.

Snowflake delivered actual numbers that exceeded expectations.

    6. Snowflake Raised Its Full-Year Forecast

Markets don’t only care about what happened last quarter.

They care even more about what management says happens next.

Snowflake raised its fiscal-year product revenue outlook to roughly:

    $6.1 billion

    representing approximately:

    36% growth.

The company also increased its expected adjusted operating margin to approximately 14.5%, according to reporting following the earnings release.

This combination is particularly attractive to investors:

    higher growth + improving profitability.

High-growth software companies sometimes generate rapid revenue expansion while producing little profit.

The market becomes much more interested when both growth and margins improve simultaneously.

    7. Snowflake’s $9 Billion Backlog Matters

    Another number deserves attention:

    $9.0 billion.

That’s Snowflake’s remaining performance obligations as of July 31, 2026.

RPO represents contracted revenue that has not yet been recognized.

It doesn’t guarantee exactly when every dollar will become reported revenue, but it provides investors with visibility into future demand.

    Snowflake also reported:

    828 customers

generating more than $1 million each in trailing 12-month product revenue.

Its net revenue retention rate was:

    126%.

In simple terms, Snowflake’s large existing customers are continuing to spend heavily.

    8. Snowflake Has Already Signed a Massive AWS Deal

Another piece of the story shouldn’t be overlooked.

Earlier in 2026, Snowflake signed a five-year, $6 billion agreement with Amazon Web Services.

The deal gives Snowflake access to AWS infrastructure, including Graviton processors and AI computing resources.

This matters because AI workloads require enormous computing capacity.

Snowflake doesn’t need to become Nvidia or Amazon.

Instead, it can sit higher in the technology stack and provide the data infrastructure that enterprises use to build and operate AI applications.

That’s potentially a very valuable position.

    9. Is AI Killing Software—or Helping Snowflake?

This is perhaps the biggest investment question surrounding SNOW.

For much of 2026, investors have worried that generative AI and autonomous agents could disrupt traditional software companies.

Why pay for dozens of specialized applications if AI can perform many tasks directly?

    That’s a legitimate concern.

But Snowflake occupies a somewhat different position.

    AI itself needs data.

    And enterprise AI needs:

    secure data

    organized data

    governed data

    accessible data

    and increasingly,

    real-time data.

Snowflake provides infrastructure underneath many of those AI applications.

The latest earnings report suggests AI may therefore be increasing demand for Snowflake rather than replacing it.

Reuters reported that demand for Snowflake’s cloud data platform and AI offerings was a major factor behind the company’s stronger results and raised forecast.

    10. Snowflake Stock Has Already Had a Huge Year

The earnings jump didn’t happen in isolation.

Snowflake stock had already risen more than 40% in 2026 around the time of the latest earnings report.

And the stock then surged again after earnings.

That tells us investors are beginning to reprice Snowflake.

A company previously viewed mainly as a cloud data warehouse is increasingly being valued as:

    an AI infrastructure company.

That distinction could be extremely important for SNOW’s long-term valuation.

Why Did SNOW Stock Jump More Than 20%?

The move can be summarized in six points.

    1. Revenue beat expectations

Snowflake generated approximately $1.55 billion in quarterly revenue.

    2. Revenue growth accelerated

    Product revenue increased 37%.

    3. AI adoption is contributing to growth

Management said AI accounted for roughly half of the recent acceleration.

    4. Earnings beat expectations

Adjusted EPS reached $0.62 versus roughly $0.45 expected.

    5. Guidance increased

Full-year product revenue expectations rose to roughly $6.1 billion.

    6. Investors are reconsidering the “AI kills software” thesis

Snowflake’s results suggest enterprise AI could actually increase consumption of its data platform.

    That’s a powerful combination.

    But Is Snowflake Profitable?

Here’s where investors need to be careful.

    Snowflake’s adjusted results look impressive.

But on a GAAP accounting basis, profitability remains an issue.

One major reason is stock-based compensation.

Reporting following the latest quarter put stock-based compensation at roughly $423 million.

    That’s substantial.

Investors therefore need to distinguish between:

    adjusted profitability

    and

    GAAP profitability.

Snowflake’s management expects further improvement, but this remains one of the most important risks in the investment thesis.

Another Risk: Snowflake Is Not Alone

    Snowflake has powerful competitors.

The list includes giants such as:

    Microsoft

    Amazon Web Services

    Google Cloud

and one particularly important private competitor:

    Databricks.

Databricks is competing aggressively in enterprise data and AI.

This battle could become one of the defining enterprise-software competitions of the AI era.

Both companies want to become the platform where businesses store data, analyze it and build AI applications.

So Snowflake’s growth opportunity is enormous.

    But so is the competition.

SNOW Stock: Bull Case vs. Bear Case

    Bull CaseBear Case
Product revenue +37%Valuation has risen sharply
Growth acceleratingGAAP profitability remains a concern
    AI adoption increasingHeavy stock-based compensation
    $9B RPODatabricks and hyperscaler competition
126% net revenue retentionAI spending could eventually slow
Guidance raised20%+ earnings jump creates volatility
Enterprise AI infrastructure exposureExpectations are now much higher

This is the central issue after the rally.

    Snowflake’s business looks stronger.

But the stock is also being priced for more success.

Is Snowflake Stock a Buy After the 20% Jump?

This is where investors need to separate:

    a great company

    from

    a great stock price.

Snowflake’s latest quarter was clearly strong.

    Growth accelerated.

    AI adoption increased.

    Guidance went higher.

But after a stock jumps more than 20% following earnings, investors should ask:

How much future growth is already priced in?

If Snowflake continues producing 30%+ product revenue growth while improving profitability, today’s valuation may eventually be justified.

But if growth slows unexpectedly, a stock carrying high expectations can fall very quickly.

So rather than chasing a one-day move, investors may want to watch whether Snowflake can repeat this performance over the next several quarters.

    What Investors Should Watch Next

There are six numbers I would watch closely.

    Product revenue growth

The key question is whether Snowflake can maintain growth around the mid-30% range.

    AI product adoption

CoCo, CoWork and Snowflake Intelligence need to translate usage into revenue.

    Net revenue retention

The current 126% level indicates existing customers are spending more.

    Remaining performance obligations

The $9 billion backlog provides important future visibility.

    Operating margin

Investors want proof that growth can increasingly translate into profits.

    Stock-based compensation

Snowflake eventually needs to demonstrate stronger GAAP economics.

Could Snowflake Become One of the Biggest AI Software Winners?

    Potentially.

But not because Snowflake is trying to build the world’s biggest consumer chatbot.

    Its opportunity is different.

    The AI revolution needs infrastructure.

    Nvidia provides computing hardware.

Amazon, Microsoft and Google provide cloud infrastructure.

And companies like Snowflake are competing to provide the enterprise data layer that AI applications need.

That could become an extremely valuable position.

The latest earnings report suggests this isn’t merely theoretical anymore.

AI is beginning to show up in Snowflake’s actual growth numbers.

And that’s why Wall Street reacted so strongly.

The Bigger Story Behind Snowflake’s Rally

The most interesting part of this earnings report isn’t:

    “SNOW jumped 20%.”

    It’s this:

AI may be accelerating Snowflake’s business rather than disrupting it.

For investors worried that AI agents will destroy software companies, Snowflake has suddenly become an important test case.

If enterprise AI requires companies to process dramatically more proprietary data, platforms such as Snowflake could benefit from every new AI application built on top of that data.

That creates a very different investment narrative.

    Instead of:

    AI replaces Snowflake

    the thesis becomes:

More AI → more data consumption → more Snowflake revenue.

The next few quarters will tell investors whether that flywheel is real.

Bottom Line: Why Snowflake Stock Is Surging

Snowflake’s latest earnings report delivered almost everything growth investors wanted.

    Revenue: +35%

    Product revenue: +37%

    Adjusted EPS: $0.62

    RPO: $9 billion

    Net revenue retention: 126%

    Full-year guidance: raised

    and most importantly:

AI appears to be accelerating growth.

That’s why SNOW stock surged after earnings.

But after such a large move, expectations have also risen dramatically.

The next question is no longer whether Snowflake can benefit from AI.

    The question is:

How big can that AI opportunity become?

If Snowflake can maintain accelerating growth while improving profitability, it could emerge as one of the most important enterprise AI software companies of this cycle.

If growth slows, today’s enthusiasm could reverse quickly.

For now, however, Snowflake has delivered something Wall Street has been demanding from AI companies:

not just an AI story—but measurable AI-driven growth.

  • Tesla Cybercab Under Investigation: Why TSLA Stock Is Falling Today

Tesla Cybercab Under Investigation: Why TSLA Stock Is Falling Today

Tesla’s long-awaited Cybercab has finally moved from futuristic concept to real-world robotaxi service.

But just as investors were celebrating the launch, a new problem emerged.

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has begun scrutinizing Tesla’s Cybercab rollout and its compliance with federal vehicle safety standards.

The news sent Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) shares down roughly 3% in premarket trading on September 4, 2026, after the stock had gained about 6% the previous day.

The reason investors are paying attention is simple.

Cybercab is not just another Tesla vehicle.

Cybercab could be one of the most important products in Tesla’s attempt to transform itself from an electric-car company into an autonomous transportation and AI company.

So why is NHTSA looking at Cybercab?

And could the investigation become a serious problem for Tesla stock?

Here is what investors need to know.

    What Is Tesla Cybercab?

Cybercab is Tesla’s purpose-built autonomous robotaxi.

Unlike a Model 3 or Model Y, Cybercab was designed from the beginning to operate without a human driver.

That means something immediately stands out when you look inside:

    There is no steering wheel.

There are also no traditional accelerator or brake pedals.

Tesla describes Cybercab as a fully autonomous two-passenger vehicle featuring butterfly-style doors, a large central touchscreen and enough cargo space for two standard checked suitcases plus two carry-on bags.

This is a fundamental departure from the traditional automobile.

And that’s exactly why regulators are interested.

Why Is NHTSA Investigating Tesla Cybercab?

The core issue is not simply whether Cybercab can drive itself.

    The question is:

Does a vehicle designed without conventional driver controls comply with U.S. federal motor vehicle safety standards?

Reuters reported that NHTSA opened an audit involving roughly 1,000 Tesla Cybercabs, focusing on the company’s safety certification and compliance with federal standards.

Traditional federal safety rules were largely written around vehicles operated by human drivers.

Those vehicles normally have equipment such as:

    a steering wheel

    brake and accelerator pedals

    mirrors

    and other driver-oriented controls.

Cybercab challenges that traditional framework because Tesla designed the vehicle specifically for autonomous operation.

NHTSA is examining the technical information and certification process used by Tesla, including how the company determined which Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards apply to the Cybercab.

    Is Cybercab Being Recalled?

    This distinction is extremely important.

No recall has been announced based on the information currently available.

NHTSA’s scrutiny does not automatically mean Cybercab has been declared unsafe.

Nor does it mean the regulator has already determined that Tesla violated federal rules.

The agency is examining the rollout and compliance process.

    So headlines saying simply:

    “Tesla Cybercab is unsafe”

would go beyond what is currently known.

    The accurate description is:

U.S. regulators are evaluating whether Cybercab’s design and certification comply with federal safety requirements.

That investigation could ultimately produce different outcomes depending on what regulators find.

Cybercab Is Already Carrying Passengers in Austin

This isn’t just a prototype sitting on a show floor.

Tesla has started offering Cybercab rides in limited parts of Austin, Texas.

Tesla’s own support page currently confirms that Cybercab rides are available in limited areas of Austin.

Meanwhile, Tesla’s broader Robotaxi service using autonomous vehicles operates in several U.S. cities, including Austin, Dallas, Houston, Miami, Orlando and Tampa.

According to Texas registration information cited by Reuters, there were 420 Tesla autonomous vehicles registered in Texas, including 45 Cybercabs, as of the latest report.

That makes the regulatory question more urgent.

Cybercab is no longer merely a future promise.

It is beginning to interact with real passengers and public roads.

Why Did Tesla Stock Fall Today?

The immediate answer is regulatory uncertainty.

Tesla shares fell around 3% in premarket trading Friday following news of the NHTSA investigation.

But there’s another reason the market reaction matters.

Tesla shares had risen roughly 6% the previous day as investors responded enthusiastically to the Cybercab launch.

So the sequence looked roughly like this:

Cybercab excitement → TSLA +6% → NHTSA scrutiny → TSLA falls about 3% premarket

That illustrates the tension surrounding Tesla right now.

Investors see enormous potential in autonomous transportation.

Regulators see an entirely new class of safety questions.

Why Cybercab Matters So Much to Tesla Stock

Cybercab matters because Tesla’s valuation is increasingly about much more than selling electric cars.

Tesla has been positioning itself around:

    autonomous driving

    artificial intelligence

    Robotaxi

    Cybercab

    Optimus robots

    and other technology businesses.

In its latest quarterly materials, Tesla described Cybercab as the “workhorse” of its Robotaxi fleet and said production had already begun.

    That language is important.

Tesla doesn’t see Cybercab as a niche experiment.

It wants the vehicle to become a central part of a much larger autonomous transportation network.

If that vision succeeds, Tesla could potentially earn revenue not only by selling cars but by operating transportation services at scale.

Tesla’s Robotaxi Network Is Already Expanding

Tesla’s official Robotaxi page says autonomous rides are currently offered in:

    Austin

    Dallas

    Houston

    Miami

    Orlando

    and

    Tampa.

Tesla also reported in its second-quarter update that it was preparing for additional markets, including Phoenix and Las Vegas, while expanding unsupervised operations in several existing cities.

This expansion is crucial to the Tesla investment thesis.

The company needs to demonstrate that autonomous transportation can work not just in carefully controlled demonstrations but across multiple cities at meaningful scale.

The Biggest Cybercab Question: Can Tesla Scale It?

A few dozen Cybercabs operating in limited areas is one thing.

Operating thousands—or eventually hundreds of thousands—across the United States is something entirely different.

To reach that scale, Tesla needs to solve several problems simultaneously.

    1. Regulatory approval

Different states and jurisdictions have different requirements for autonomous vehicles.

    2. Safety

Autonomous vehicles need to operate reliably around unpredictable human drivers, pedestrians, cyclists and emergency situations.

    3. Manufacturing

Tesla must produce Cybercabs cheaply and in large numbers.

    4. Software

The autonomous-driving system needs to work consistently across different roads, weather conditions and cities.

    5. Public trust

Even if the technology works, consumers still need to feel comfortable entering a vehicle with no human driver—and no steering wheel.

    These are not small challenges.

Why the Missing Steering Wheel Matters

Cybercab’s most futuristic feature may also be its biggest regulatory challenge.

A conventional vehicle assumes that a human can take control.

    Cybercab does not.

Tesla says the vehicle uses camera vision and sensors to navigate streets, highways, intersections and parking environments autonomously.

But removing the steering wheel and pedals changes the fundamental safety architecture of a vehicle.

If the autonomous system encounters a situation it cannot resolve, the passenger cannot simply grab the wheel.

That creates questions regulators must address:

What happens during a system failure?

How does the vehicle reach a safe stop?

How can passengers respond during an emergency?

Which existing federal standards apply to a vehicle with no human driver controls?

These questions are central to the regulatory debate surrounding Cybercab.

Cybercab vs. Waymo: Tesla Has a Powerful Rival

Tesla isn’t entering an empty market.

Alphabet-owned Waymo has already established a substantial autonomous ride-hailing presence.

Reuters reported that Waymo had 988 vehicles registered in Texas, compared with Tesla’s 420 autonomous vehicles at the time of the report.

The two companies also use different technological approaches.

Tesla has historically emphasized vision-based autonomous driving and scalable vehicle manufacturing.

Waymo uses a broader suite of sensors and has focused heavily on geofenced autonomous ride-hailing.

For investors, the important question isn’t simply:

“Can Tesla build a self-driving car?”

    It is:

“Can Tesla build a robotaxi network faster, cheaper and at greater scale than competitors?”

Cybercab is Tesla’s attempt to answer that question.

Could Cybercab Transform Tesla’s Business Model?

    This is the bull case.

Traditional automakers typically make money when they sell a vehicle.

A robotaxi could potentially generate revenue repeatedly.

Instead of selling one car once, Tesla could theoretically use one Cybercab to provide thousands of paid rides over its operating life.

    That changes the economics.

A successful autonomous fleet could generate revenue from:

    rides

    fleet operations

    software

    AI

and potentially third-party fleet ownership or operation.

Tesla’s Cybercab FAQ even provides a form for parties interested in purchasing individual Cybercabs or fleets for commercial purposes.

If the economics work, this could become a very different business from conventional auto manufacturing.

But Regulation Could Slow Everything Down

    This is the bear case.

    Tesla can manufacture Cybercabs.

    It can improve autonomous-driving software.

    It can build Robotaxi apps.

But it cannot unilaterally decide where fully autonomous vehicles may legally operate.

Regulators have significant influence over deployment.

And Cybercab’s unusual design makes the regulatory question particularly important because the vehicle removes traditional human controls.

Reuters reported that regulatory requirements remain a significant constraint on broader deployment, particularly in major markets such as California.

This means Tesla’s autonomous future depends on two races:

    the technology race

    and

    the regulatory race.

Winning only one may not be enough.

Is the NHTSA Investigation Bad for Tesla?

In the short term, yes—it creates uncertainty.

That’s one reason TSLA shares reacted negatively.

But the long-term impact depends entirely on what happens next.

    There are several possible scenarios.

    Best-case scenario

Regulators review Tesla’s certification and allow deployment to continue with limited changes.

That would remove a major uncertainty surrounding Cybercab.

    Middle scenario

Tesla must modify certain systems, documentation or operating procedures before expanding.

That could slow rollout but would not necessarily destroy the Robotaxi strategy.

    Worst-case scenario

Regulators identify substantial compliance problems that require major vehicle changes or significantly restrict deployment.

That could delay Cybercab’s expansion and weaken one of the most important growth narratives supporting Tesla’s valuation.

At this point, it is too early to know which scenario will occur.

What Tesla Investors Should Watch Next

For TSLA investors, there are now several key indicators worth following.

    1. NHTSA’s next action

Does the agency simply complete its review, or does scrutiny escalate?

    2. Number of Cybercabs deployed

The jump from dozens of vehicles to thousands would be a major milestone.

    3. New Robotaxi cities

Expansion beyond existing markets would demonstrate scalability.

    4. Autonomous miles

Tesla reported approximately 2.4 million cumulative paid Robotaxi miles by June 2026 in its Q2 materials.

Growth in this figure will help show whether real-world usage is accelerating.

    5. Safety incidents

Any serious Cybercab incident could dramatically change public perception and regulatory scrutiny.

    6. Cybercab economics

Eventually investors need answers about cost per vehicle, utilization, ride pricing and profitability.

Those numbers may matter more than the initial hype.

Tesla Cybercab: Bull Case vs. Bear Case

    Bull CaseBear Case
    Purpose-built autonomous vehicleRegulatory uncertainty
    No driver labor costSafety scrutiny
Robotaxi network already expandingLimited Cybercab deployment today
    Tesla manufacturing scaleWaymo competition
Recurring ride revenue potentialRules vary by jurisdiction
AI/autonomy could justify higher valuationAutonomous technology still carries execution risk

This explains why TSLA can move sharply in both directions on Cybercab news.

    The upside could be enormous.

But so could the execution risk.

Is Tesla Stock a Buy After the Cybercab Investigation?

A regulatory investigation alone does not answer whether Tesla stock is cheap or expensive.

The much more important question is:

How much of Tesla’s future Robotaxi success is already reflected in TSLA’s valuation?

If Cybercab scales successfully across the U.S. and eventually internationally, Tesla’s business could look dramatically different from today’s automobile company.

But if deployment is repeatedly delayed by regulation, safety issues or technical limitations, investors may have to reduce their expectations for Robotaxi revenue.

That is why Cybercab news can move Tesla shares so quickly.

Investors aren’t simply valuing one new car.

They’re trying to value a potential transportation network.

Why TSLA Stock Is Falling Today: The Simple Answer

Today’s story can be summarized in one chain:

Cybercab launches → investors celebrate → TSLA rises about 6% → NHTSA begins scrutiny → TSLA falls about 3% premarket.

The U.S. regulator is examining roughly 1,000 Cybercabs and Tesla’s compliance with federal safety requirements, particularly because the purpose-built robotaxi lacks conventional controls such as a steering wheel and pedals.

That does not mean Cybercab has failed.

It means one of Tesla’s biggest future businesses has entered the phase where ambitious technology meets real-world regulation.

And that may be the most important part of the story.

    Bottom Line

Cybercab could become one of the most important products Tesla has ever built.

If Tesla succeeds, the company could move far beyond the traditional model of manufacturing and selling electric cars.

It could operate a massive autonomous transportation network powered by AI.

But the very feature that makes Cybercab revolutionary—a vehicle designed to operate without a human driver or traditional controls—also creates regulatory questions that ordinary cars don’t face.

For investors, the next major catalyst isn’t simply another Tesla event.

It is whether Cybercab can move from:

dozens of vehicles → thousands → a nationwide fleet.

If that happens, Tesla’s Robotaxi thesis becomes much more tangible.

If regulators significantly slow that expansion, the market may have to reconsider how quickly the autonomous future can arrive.

Cybercab is now on the road. The next battle is scale—and regulation.

  • Why Is Lululemon Stock Crashing Today? LULU Drops Nearly 20% After Earnings

Why Is Lululemon Stock Crashing Today? LULU Drops Nearly 20% After Earnings

Lululemon stock is getting crushed after its latest earnings report.

Shares of Lululemon Athletica (NASDAQ: LULU) plunged roughly 17%–20% in premarket trading on September 4, 2026, after the athletic apparel company reported disappointing second-quarter sales and sharply cut its full-year outlook.

The headline numbers tell only part of the story.

Lululemon is facing a much bigger question:

Has one of the world’s strongest athleisure brands lost its growth momentum?

Revenue is falling, sales in the Americas are weakening, some of the company’s signature products are struggling, competitors are gaining ground, and management has once again lowered expectations for 2026.

Here is what happened, why LULU stock is falling today, and what investors should watch next.

    LULU Stock Crash: What Happened?

Lululemon reported fiscal second-quarter 2026 results after the market closed on September 3.

    The company’s official results showed:

    Q2 2026Result
    Revenue$2.42 billion
    Revenue growth-4% YoY
    Comparable sales-9%
    Americas revenue-8%
    Americas comparable sales-12%
    International revenue+4%
    Diluted EPS$2.92
    Gross margin60.5%

Lululemon’s revenue declined 4% year over year, while comparable sales fell 9%. On a constant-currency basis, comparable sales declined 10%.

The most worrying number may be the Americas.

    Comparable sales there fell 12%.

For a company that built much of its global success in North America, that is difficult for investors to ignore.

    1. Lululemon Missed Revenue Expectations

The first reason LULU stock is falling is straightforward.

Revenue came in at approximately $2.42 billion, below Wall Street expectations of around $2.46 billion.

Revenue was also down about 4% from the same quarter a year earlier.

That matters because investors are no longer looking at Lululemon as an early-stage growth company.

At this stage, the market wants evidence that the brand can continue expanding while defending its premium position.

Instead, the latest quarter showed contraction.

    2. The Americas Business Is Getting Weaker

This may be the biggest problem behind today’s selloff.

    Lululemon reported:

    Americas revenue: -8%

    and

    Americas comparable sales: -12%.

    That is significant.

The Americas have historically been Lululemon’s core market.

International expansion can help, but it becomes much harder for overseas growth to carry the entire company when the core North American business is shrinking.

And the latest quarter showed weakness internationally as well: international revenue rose 4%, but comparable sales declined 3%.

    3. Lululemon’s Famous Leggings Are Losing Momentum

This is one of the most important details in the earnings story.

Reuters reported that sales of Lululemon’s signature leggings fell approximately 20%.

That matters because leggings are not simply another product category for Lululemon.

They are central to the company’s identity.

For years, Lululemon built an extremely powerful premium brand around yoga pants, leggings and athletic lifestyle clothing.

If weakness were limited to a small product category, investors might overlook it.

But weakness in a signature category raises a different question:

Is this a temporary product-cycle problem, or is the Lululemon brand itself losing momentum?

That is one reason the market reaction has been so severe.

    4. Lululemon Slashed Its 2026 Forecast

This is probably the most direct reason for the stock crash.

Before the earnings report, Lululemon expected fiscal 2026 revenue to be roughly flat or decline by as much as 1%.

Now the company expects revenue to decline approximately:

    5% to 7%

    to between:

    $10.35 billion and $10.50 billion.

The company also reduced its full-year EPS outlook.

    Previous guidance:

    $10.95–$11.15

    New guidance:

    $9.48–$9.73

That is a substantial downward revision.

    Investors generally dislike uncertainty.

But they dislike something even more:

A company repeatedly telling them that future results will be worse than previously expected.

That is exactly what has happened with Lululemon.

    5. The Q3 Forecast Looks Even Worse

The third-quarter outlook added more pressure.

Lululemon expects Q3 2026 revenue of:

    $2.29 billion to $2.32 billion

    representing a year-over-year decline of approximately 10% to 11%.

The midpoint is about $2.305 billion.

Wall Street had been expecting roughly $2.53 billion.

The earnings outlook is also weak.

    Lululemon expects Q3 EPS of:

    $0.93 to $0.98

compared with a consensus estimate around $2.41 cited before the report.

That gap helps explain why investors reacted so aggressively.

The market isn’t just reacting to what happened last quarter.

It is reacting to management saying that the next quarter could be considerably weaker than investors had expected.

    6. The $2.92 EPS Beat Isn’t As Strong As It Looks

At first glance, there is something strange about this earnings report.

    Lululemon reported diluted EPS of:

    $2.92

which was substantially higher than analyst expectations.

So why did the stock crash?

    Because that number requires context.

The $2.92 EPS included approximately $0.86 per share from tariff refunds and related interest.

Without that benefit, underlying EPS would have been closer to $2.06.

Gross margin also benefited substantially from those tariff refunds.

In other words, the headline EPS number looked strong, but investors focused on the underlying business trends:

    falling revenue

    weak comparable sales

    shrinking Americas sales

    and

    lower future guidance.

Those numbers told a very different story.

    7. Lululemon Is Facing Much Stronger Competition

There is another issue that goes beyond one quarter.

Lululemon no longer has the premium athleisure market largely to itself.

    Consumers now have more alternatives.

Brands such as Alo Yoga and Vuori have become stronger competitors, while established athletic companies continue fighting for the same consumer spending.

Reuters reports that Lululemon has lost meaningful share in the athleisure market as competitors gain ground.

    This creates a difficult challenge.

Lululemon built its reputation partly on being distinctive.

If consumers begin seeing several other brands as equally fashionable or desirable, maintaining premium pricing and rapid growth becomes harder.

    8. Is Lululemon Losing Its “Cool” Factor?

This may be more important than any single financial metric.

Fashion and athletic apparel companies sell more than fabric.

    They sell identity.

For years, wearing Lululemon communicated a particular lifestyle: fitness, yoga, wellness and premium casual fashion.

    But consumer preferences change.

Management acknowledged that negative media and social commentary, combined with weak responses to some new products, weighed on performance.

That makes Lululemon’s current problem different from a simple temporary cost increase.

    Costs can be cut.

    Inventory can be reduced.

But rebuilding cultural relevance can take much longer.

    9. China Is No Longer Providing the Same Growth Story

For years, international expansion—especially China—was one of the strongest arguments for Lululemon’s future growth.

    That story has now weakened.

Reuters reported that China revenue declined approximately 2% during the quarter, with the company also dealing with fallout from a marketing campaign that drew criticism.

This matters because investors could previously tolerate slower North American growth if China and other international markets were expanding rapidly.

When both sides weaken at the same time, the investment story becomes much more difficult.

    10. LULU Stock Was Already Having a Terrible Year

Today’s plunge did not come out of nowhere.

Lululemon shares had already fallen more than 40% in 2026 before this latest earnings-driven selloff, according to reporting following the results.

    That tells us something important.

    Investors were already worried about:

    weak demand,

    slowing growth,

    competition,

    product innovation,

    and the company’s turnaround.

The latest earnings report didn’t create those concerns.

    It reinforced them.

Why Is LULU Stock Down Today?

The entire selloff can be summarized in five points:

    1. Revenue missed expectations

Revenue fell approximately 4% to $2.42 billion.

    2. Americas comparable sales fell 12%

Weakness in Lululemon’s most important market is becoming difficult to ignore.

    3. Signature leggings sales reportedly fell about 20%

That raises questions about product and brand momentum.

    4. Full-year guidance was slashed again

Revenue is now expected to fall 5%–7%.

    5. Q3 guidance was dramatically below expectations

Investors see little evidence of an immediate rebound.

Put those together, and a nearly 20% premarket decline becomes easier to understand.

    Is Lululemon Stock Cheap Now?

This is where the story gets interesting.

A stock falling 20% in one day does not automatically make it cheap.

Price and value are not the same thing.

Lululemon’s valuation has fallen dramatically as its stock price has declined.

But whether LULU is truly undervalued depends on one major question:

Can the company return to sustainable growth?

If today’s problems are temporary and Lululemon can revive product innovation, rebuild brand momentum and restore North American sales, today’s valuation could eventually look attractive.

But if revenue continues declining and competitors continue taking market share, the lower stock price could simply reflect a permanently weaker growth outlook.

That distinction matters much more than the size of today’s decline.

What Could Make LULU Stock Recover?

There are several things investors should watch.

    1. North American comparable sales

A recovery from the current -12% level would be one of the strongest signs that the turnaround is working.

    2. Product innovation

Lululemon needs new products that generate excitement instead of relying too heavily on legacy franchises.

    3. Leggings demand

If the reported roughly 20% decline in signature leggings reverses, sentiment could improve quickly.

    4. International growth

China and other international markets need to resume stronger growth.

    5. New leadership

Incoming CEO Heidi O’Neill, a Nike veteran, is expected to play a central role in the company’s attempt to revive growth and brand momentum.

Leadership changes can create a catalyst.

    But turnarounds usually take time.

Should You Buy LULU Stock After the Crash?

    There is no universal answer.

For bullish investors, the argument is straightforward:

Lululemon remains a globally recognized premium brand, the stock has already suffered a massive decline, and successful new leadership could eventually restore growth.

The bearish argument is equally clear:

Revenue is shrinking, North American sales are weak, competition is rising, management has cut guidance repeatedly, and there is still no clear evidence that the deterioration has bottomed.

    So instead of asking:

“LULU fell 20%. Should I buy?”

    a better question may be:

“What evidence would prove that Lululemon’s business has started improving?”

That evidence is not yet obvious in the latest earnings report.

LULU Stock: Bull Case vs. Bear Case

    Bull CaseBear Case
    Globally recognized premium brandRevenue declining
Stock already sharply downAmericas comparable sales -12%
New CEO could drive turnaroundSignature leggings reportedly weak
    International growth opportunity remainsCompetition increasing
Product innovation could revive demandGuidance cut again
Lower valuationQ3 outlook far below expectations

This is why LULU could become a particularly volatile stock.

The pessimism is substantial—but so are the operational challenges.

    What Investors Should Watch Next

The next phase of the Lululemon story is no longer primarily about one earnings report.

It is about whether the company can prove that its problems are fixable.

    Watch these numbers closely:

    Americas comparable sales

    total revenue growth

    gross margin excluding one-time benefits

    inventory

    international and China sales

    full-year guidance

    and, most importantly,

    whether management stops cutting expectations.

If future guidance stabilizes and North American sales improve, the stock could respond quickly.

If estimates continue falling, investors may continue treating rallies as temporary.

Bottom Line: Why Lululemon Stock Is Crashing

Lululemon’s nearly 20% premarket plunge is not simply an emotional reaction to one disappointing number.

The market is responding to a combination of:

    falling revenue

    -12% Americas comparable sales

weakness in a signature product category

    another major guidance cut

    a very weak Q3 outlook

    rising competition

    and

    questions about the brand’s momentum.

Lululemon still has a powerful global name.

But investors are no longer willing to pay a premium simply because Lululemon was once one of the fastest-growing athletic apparel brands.

Now the company has to prove it can grow again.

And until that happens, LULU stock may remain highly volatile.

    『FINAL FANTASY VII』ファンにとって、ついにその時が近づいてきました。

    スクウェア・エニックスは、FFVIIリメイクプロジェクト3部作の完結編となる

    『FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION(ファイナルファンタジーVII リベレーション)』

    FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATIONとは?

    『FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION』は、1997年に発売された名作RPG『FINAL FANTASY VII』を現代の技術で再構築する「FFVIIリメイクプロジェクト」の第3作です。

    シリーズは、

    第1作:FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE

    ↓

    第2作:FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH

    ↓

    第3作:FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION

    FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION

    発売日:2027年4月8日

    対応プラットフォームは、

    PlayStation 5

    Nintendo Switch 2

    Xbox Series X|S

    PC

    REVELATION

    であることも興味深いところです。

    “Revelation”には「啓示」「明らかになること」といった意味があります。

    REMAKE、REBIRTHを経て、最後に何が“明らかになる”のでしょうか。

    これは発売まで最大の考察テーマになりそうです。

    ハイウインドで世界を自由に飛べる

    ゲームシステム面で特に注目したいのが、

    飛空艇ハイウインド(Highwind)

    『FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE』が発売。

    2024年には、

    『FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH』。

    そして2027年、

    FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION

    ① FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE

    ↓

    ② FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH

    ↓

    ③ FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION

  • Mice in the Walls? What to Do When You Hear Scratching at Night

Mice in the Walls? What to Do When You Hear Scratching at Night

    It’s 2:13 a.m.

    The house is quiet.

    Then you hear it.

    Scratch. Scratch. Scratch.

You stop breathing for a second.

    Nothing.

    Then—

    scrrrrch… scurry… scratch.

And it sounds like it is coming from inside the wall beside your bed.

    You knock on the wall.

    The noise stops.

    Five minutes later?

    It starts again.

If you have experienced this, you already know why “mice in walls” is such a frustrating household problem.

    You can’t see the animal.

You don’t know exactly where it is.

And suddenly every tiny sound inside your house becomes suspicious.

Reddit is full of homeowners describing almost exactly this experience. One homeowner reported hearing scratching and debris falling through the walls at night despite seeing no mice inside the living space. Another described a rodent scratching for hours near a bedroom wall and repeatedly waking someone around 3 a.m.

So what should you actually do?

    First:

Don’t tear open your wall yet.

And don’t assume every scratching sound is definitely a mouse.

    Let’s investigate properly.

First Question: Is It Really a Mouse?

Scratching inside a wall is consistent with mice.

But sound alone cannot identify the animal.

    Possible causes include:

    • Mice
    • Rats
    • Squirrels
    • Birds
    • Bats
    • Insects
    • Plumbing
    • HVAC ducts
    • Building materials expanding or moving

This comes up repeatedly in homeowner discussions.

In one Reddit post, someone was convinced the animal inside a wall sounded far too large to be a mouse. A pest-control professional replied that mice can sound surprisingly loud inside wall cavities and said mice would still be his first suspicion until an inspection showed otherwise.

Another former pest-control worker warned that scratching noises he had investigated sometimes turned out to be completely different things — including branches, insects or building materials.

    Why is this so confusing?

Because walls can amplify and transmit sound.

Something tiny can sound much larger when you’re lying in bed in a silent room.

So don’t diagnose by sound alone.

    Look for evidence.

7 Signs That Make Mice More Likely

If scratching is accompanied by several of these signs, mice become a much stronger possibility.

    1. Mouse droppings

    Check:

    • Under sinks
    • Behind refrigerators
    • Behind stoves
    • Inside lower cabinets
    • Pantries
    • Garages
    • Attics
    • Along baseboards

Fresh droppings near the wall where you’re hearing noises are an important clue.

    2. Chewed food packaging

Check cereal boxes, bags of rice, flour, nuts, pet food and other stored foods.

    3. Gnaw marks

Mice gnaw on materials while exploring and maintaining their teeth.

    4. Nesting material

Shredded paper, fabric or insulation can indicate nesting activity.

    5. Strange odors

Persistent rodent activity can produce a musky or unpleasant odor.

    6. Actual sightings

If you’ve already seen a mouse in the kitchen and now hear scratching in the adjacent wall, the evidence becomes much stronger.

    7. Small openings into the structure

Look around plumbing, utility penetrations, cabinets and the exterior of the house.

One Reddit user heard scratching inside a wall, inspected outside and found an opening where a utility line entered the home — and later actually saw a mouse at the hole.

That’s the kind of evidence we’re looking for.

Why Do You Hear Mice More at Night?

Many homeowners first notice the problem when they go to bed.

    There are two reasons.

First, house mice are often most active when human activity decreases.

    Second, your house becomes quiet.

During the day, the same faint scratching may be hidden by:

    Television.

    Traffic.

    Conversation.

    Dishwashers.

    Air conditioning.

    Footsteps.

At 2 a.m., a tiny claw against drywall can suddenly sound enormous.

That’s why so many Reddit posts about mice in walls begin with some version of:

    “I can’t sleep.”

One Washington, D.C. resident described rodents apparently using the ceiling as a nighttime “highway” and making enough noise to disturb both the homeowner and their dog.

Another homeowner reported repeatedly waking around 3 a.m. because of scratching inside a bedroom wall.

So if you’re losing sleep over this, you’re certainly not the only one.

How Did a Mouse Get Inside the Wall?

    This is the real question.

A mouse didn’t magically appear inside your drywall.

    It entered the building somewhere.

Then it found access to a wall void.

    Common areas worth inspecting include:

    • Gaps around pipes
    • Utility cable penetrations
    • Gaps beneath cabinets
    • Foundation openings
    • Exterior siding gaps
    • Garage-door edges
    • Attic access routes
    • Crawlspaces
    • Openings around vents
    • Damaged building materials

Older houses can be especially complicated because decades of renovations may leave hidden openings.

But new houses aren’t automatically mouse-proof either.

Think of the wall as a highway.

The mouse may not actually live in the exact spot where you hear it.

It may simply be traveling through that cavity between:

Entry point → nest → food → water → nest.

That’s why finding the route matters more than banging on the wall every night.

Should You Drill a Hole in the Wall?

Usually, not as your first move.

This is one of the most common panic reactions:

“I can hear it right there. Why don’t I just drill into the wall?”

Because you may not know what is behind the drywall.

    There could be:

    • Electrical wiring
    • Plumbing
    • Gas lines
    • Structural components

And even if you open the wall, the animal may no longer be exactly where the sound seemed to originate.

    Wall cavities can distort sound.

    Start with accessible areas first.

Inspect the rooms on both sides of the wall.

    Look beneath cabinets.

Check the attic or basement where safely accessible.

    Inspect the exterior.

Look for droppings and entry points.

Only consider opening a wall when there is a specific reason and you understand what is behind it — preferably with professional help when necessary.

Should You Put Poison Inside the Wall?

    This sounds tempting.

    Mouse inside wall.

    Poison inside wall.

    Problem solved.

Except it can create a second problem:

The mouse may die somewhere you cannot reach.

Then you may have to deal with decomposition odor inside the structure.

Reddit homeowners worry about exactly this scenario. One person hearing a mouse scratching near the bed specifically avoided putting poison into the wall because of concern about the smell if the animal died there.

There are additional safety issues with rodenticides, particularly around children, pets and wildlife.

So don’t casually throw poison into an inaccessible wall cavity.

If rodenticides are needed, use appropriately registered products according to their labels or involve a pest-control professional.

For many household mouse problems, properly placed snap traps in accessible areas where mice emerge to forage are easier to monitor.

So Where Do You Put the Traps If the Mouse Is Inside the Wall?

    This is the key.

You usually don’t need to catch the mouse inside the wall.

You need to intercept it when it leaves the wall to find food and water.

That means looking for accessible routes near:

    • Kitchen cabinets
    • Refrigerator
    • Stove
    • Pantry
    • Sink
    • Garage
    • Attic access
    • Known openings
    • Fresh droppings

This connects directly with our previous guide:

Where to Place Mouse Traps: 10 Best Spots in Your House

    The principle is simple:

Find where the mouse comes out.

Then place the traps on that route.

One Reddit discussion about mice inside walls similarly recommended putting traps near the accessible opening because the rodents must eventually leave hidden spaces to forage.

    What Bait Should You Use?

    Don’t overthink this part.

A small amount of peanut butter is an excellent starting point for a snap trap.

    We’ve covered this extensively in:

Best Mouse Trap Bait: Peanut Butter vs. Other Baits — What Actually Works?

If mice keep eating the peanut butter without getting caught, also read:

Mice Keep Stealing the Bait? Why Your Mouse Trap Isn’t Working

The important thing here is that location often matters more than endlessly changing bait.

A perfect bait sitting nowhere near the mouse’s route isn’t particularly useful.

Should You Seal the Hole Immediately?

    This one requires some judgment.

    You’ve found the hole.

    Excellent.

    Your first instinct may be:

    SEAL IT NOW!

But there is a potential problem.

If rodents are actively using the opening and some are already inside the structure, sealing an active route without a removal plan can potentially trap animals inside or redirect them deeper into the building.

A recent 2026 homeowner discussion illustrates the issue: after entry points had apparently been sealed during renovations, gnawing later began behind newly installed drywall, raising concern that rodents were still using or trapped within structural spaces.

A current pest-control guide similarly cautions against sealing a suspected active route before identifying the animal and establishing a removal plan.

    So think in two stages:

    1. Control the rodents already inside.

    2. Close the entry routes so new ones cannot enter.

For complicated infestations, a pest-control professional can help coordinate exclusion and removal.

What If I Hear Scratching but See No Droppings?

    This happens.

And it’s exactly when you should resist jumping to conclusions.

One homeowner heard late-night scratching through a townhouse wall but couldn’t find any openings or evidence inside the room.

    Possible explanations include:

The animal is confined to a wall cavity.

It’s entering another part of the building.

It’s in an attic or ceiling.

The sound is traveling through shared walls.

Or it isn’t a mouse at all.

Don’t manufacture evidence because the noise is scary.

    Investigate.

    Look for corroborating signs.

If necessary, have the structure inspected.

Could It Be a Squirrel Instead?

    Yes.

Timing can provide clues, although it isn’t proof.

Mice and rats commonly create noticeable activity after dark.

Squirrels are generally more active during daylight.

But sound alone still isn’t enough.

One recent Reddit thread about apparent wall gnawing produced a surprising possibility: the noise might actually have been a squirrel chewing something on the roof, with the sound transmitting through the building.

    That’s a good reminder:

The place where you hear the sound isn’t always the place where the animal is.

What If You Live in an Apartment or Townhouse?

    This gets more complicated.

Your wall may be someone else’s wall too.

Mice can potentially travel through shared structural spaces, utility routes and gaps between units.

One townhouse resident wondered whether scratching heard through a shared wall could actually be related to a neighbor’s rodent problem.

If you rent, don’t start cutting holes or making major structural changes yourself.

    Document:

    • When you hear the noise
    • Where it seems strongest
    • Droppings
    • Photos
    • Videos
    • Mouse sightings
    • Damaged food

Then contact your landlord, property manager or building maintenance according to local requirements.

Multi-unit buildings often require a broader solution than treating a single apartment.

    Can a Cheap Camera Help?

Yes — and this is one of my favorite low-tech investigation tricks.

If you suspect mice emerge from behind a refrigerator, beneath a cabinet or from a particular utility opening, an inexpensive indoor camera can sometimes reveal the route.

Reddit homeowners report using cameras in active areas to understand where rodents are moving. One homeowner dealing with mice in wall spaces described setting up a camera in the loft after sealing suspected exterior access points.

You don’t necessarily need expensive pest-control technology.

Sometimes you just need to see what happens in your kitchen at 2 a.m.

    Don’t Ignore the Kitchen

If you hear scratching in the bedroom wall, you naturally focus on the bedroom.

    But ask another question:

    Where is the nearest food?

A wall cavity may connect different floors and rooms.

The mouse you’re hearing beside your bed could eventually be heading toward:

    The kitchen.

    Pantry.

    Pet food.

    Garbage.

    Or another food source.

So don’t limit your inspection to the exact wall making noise.

Think about the entire route through the building.

    Clean Up Food Sources

Trapping works better when mice aren’t surrounded by easier meals.

    Pay attention to:

    • Pet food left overnight
    • Open cereal bags
    • Rice and grain
    • Crumbs beneath appliances
    • Garbage
    • Bird seed
    • Snacks inside drawers
    • Food stored in garages

Move vulnerable foods into secure containers.

    Clean beneath appliances where practical.

    And don’t forget pet food.

If the mouse can eat from a giant dog-food bag every night, your tiny peanut-butter trap isn’t necessarily the most exciting restaurant in town.

    What About Mouse Droppings?

    Be careful cleaning rodent contamination.

Don’t aggressively sweep or vacuum dry droppings and contaminated nesting material, because that can stir contaminated particles into the air.

Use current public-health guidance for disinfecting rodent-contaminated areas, and use appropriate protection for larger infestations.

If contamination is extensive, professional cleanup may be appropriate.

What If a Mouse Dies Inside the Wall?

This is one of the biggest fears homeowners have.

Sometimes an inaccessible rodent dies inside a wall or ceiling.

The first sign may be odor.

If you know approximately where the carcass is and the area can be accessed safely, removal may be possible.

But don’t start randomly cutting drywall based only on smell.

If the odor is severe, persistent or you can’t determine the source, a pest-control or building professional may be able to locate it more effectively.

And this is another reason I prefer accessible, monitorable trapping over casually placing poison inside inaccessible voids.

When Should You Call Pest Control?

DIY control can work for a small mouse problem.

    But consider professional help if:

    • Scratching continues despite trapping
    • You can’t locate the entry point
    • Activity appears in several parts of the house
    • You suspect rats or wildlife rather than mice
    • The animal is in an inaccessible structural area
    • You have extensive droppings or contamination
    • Electrical wiring appears damaged
    • You live in a multi-unit building with recurring activity
    • Children or pets make trap or bait placement complicated
    • You simply don’t feel safe dealing with it

There is no prize for turning a manageable mouse problem into a home-renovation project.

The Reddit Advice I Would NOT Follow Blindly

Reddit is fantastic for discovering real household problems.

It is not automatically a pest-control manual.

    People suggest:

    Poison inside walls.

    Glue traps.

    Homemade traps.

    Peppermint oil.

    Ultrasonic devices.

    Sealing every hole immediately.

    Cats.

And occasionally ideas that sound like they belong in a cartoon.

One Washington, D.C. thread about mice in the walls even jokingly suggested releasing snakes into the walls.

    Please don’t do that.

The useful thing about Reddit is seeing what homeowners actually experience.

Then verify the solution through authoritative pest-control and public-health guidance.

10 Things to Do Tonight If You Hear Scratching in the Wall

You don’t have to solve the entire infestation at 2 a.m.

    Do this instead:

    1. Don’t panic or tear open the wall.
    2. Write down where you hear the sound.
    3. Note the time it happens.
    4. Check nearby accessible areas for droppings.
    5. Inspect the kitchen, pantry and under the sink.
    6. Look behind the refrigerator and stove when safe.
    7. Check for visible gaps around pipes and utilities.
    8. Remove accessible food sources.
    9. Place appropriate traps along confirmed mouse routes.
    10. Inspect the exterior in daylight.

Tomorrow, you can investigate more carefully.

    Tonight, you need information.

    A Simple Investigation Plan

Here’s how I would approach it.

    Night 1

    Listen.

Identify the wall or ceiling area.

    Check for accessible evidence.

Set traps on known routes rather than randomly.

    Morning 1

    Check traps.

    Look for fresh droppings.

Compare activity with the previous night.

    Day 1

    Inspect the exterior.

    Check plumbing and utility penetrations.

Look around the garage, foundation and exterior walls.

    Night 2

If necessary, use a camera in the most suspicious accessible area.

    Following days

    Continue trapping and monitoring.

Once the infestation and active routes are understood, move toward permanent exclusion.

    This turns:

“There’s something terrifying in my wall!”

    into:

“I’m identifying where an animal is entering and traveling.”

That’s a much easier problem to solve.

The Biggest Mistake: Solving Only Half the Problem

    Catching mice is satisfying.

    Snap.

    One gone.

    Snap.

    Another gone.

But if a hole remains open outside?

Another mouse may eventually take its place.

This is why our mouse-control series keeps returning to the same principle:

Trapping removes mice. Exclusion helps solve the infestation.

And that’s exactly what our next guide will cover:

How Are Mice Getting Into My House? 10 Entry Points You Need to Check

Because once you know how to catch the mouse, the next question is obvious:

How did it get inside in the first place?

Final Answer: What Should You Do About Mice in the Walls?

If you hear scratching inside your wall tonight:

Don’t immediately cut open the drywall.

First confirm that you’re actually dealing with mice.

Look for droppings, gnawing, food damage, sightings and entry points.

Then identify where the mice leave hidden wall spaces to reach food.

Place traps on those accessible routes.

    Remove competing food sources.

    Find exterior openings.

And develop a plan to exclude new rodents after dealing with the ones already inside.

    Most importantly:

Don’t spend all your energy fighting the sound.

    Find the route.

    Find the food.

    Find the hole.

That’s how a mysterious scratching noise becomes a problem you can actually solve.

Where to Place Mouse Traps: 10 Best Spots in Your House for Faster Results

    You bought a mouse trap.

    You found the best bait.

You carefully added a tiny amount of peanut butter.

    Then you waited.

    Nothing.

The next morning, the trap is untouched.

    But five feet away?

    Fresh mouse droppings.

At this point, many homeowners blame the trap.

    Or the bait.

Or perhaps they decide they are dealing with an unusually intelligent mouse.

But there may be a much simpler explanation:

Your mouse trap is in the wrong place.

When it comes to catching mice, where you put the trap can matter just as much as what you put on it.

In fact, homeowners and pest-control professionals on Reddit repeatedly emphasize the same point: proper placement can be more important than bait.

So instead of putting traps randomly around the house, let’s think like a mouse.

Here are 10 of the best places to put mouse traps in your home — and why they work.

First: Stop Thinking Like a Human

    Imagine your kitchen.

You probably walk straight across the middle of the floor.

    A mouse often doesn’t.

Mice tend to use protected routes near walls, cabinets, appliances and other objects rather than spending unnecessary time exposed in open spaces.

That changes everything about trap placement.

Suppose you put a trap here:

    Middle of kitchen → ❌

But the mouse travels like this:

    Behind refrigerator → along cabinet → behind stove → pantry → ✅

Your trap and the mouse may be living in completely different worlds.

That’s why your first job isn’t setting the trap.

    It’s discovering the mouse highway.

How Do You Find a Mouse Highway?

    Look for evidence.

    Common signs include:

    • Fresh droppings
    • Gnaw marks
    • Damaged food packaging
    • Nesting material
    • Scratching noises
    • Greasy or dirty marks along frequently traveled areas
    • Food mysteriously disappearing
    • Holes or gaps near pipes and cabinets

    Don’t just ask:

“Where did I see the mouse?”

    Ask:

“Where is it traveling every night?”

A mouse that suddenly runs across your living room may have been frightened.

That doesn’t necessarily mean the middle of your living room is its normal route.

The Most Important Placement Rule: Follow the Wall

One of the simplest mouse-trapping rules is also one of the most important.

Put traps along walls and known travel routes.

This is also one of the strongest themes in homeowner and pest-control discussions online. In one Reddit discussion, a user with professional pest-control experience explained that mice tend to run alongside objects and recommended putting the trap’s snapping side toward the wall. Another commenter summarized the issue even more directly: proper placement is more important than bait.

This is why a trap sitting randomly in the middle of a room can remain untouched even while mice are active only a few feet away.

Now let’s find the best places.

    1. Behind the Refrigerator

★★★★★ One of the first places I would check

If you have mice in the kitchen, start here.

Behind a refrigerator can offer several things mice like:

Cover. Warmth. Darkness. Crumbs. A protected travel route.

And because people rarely move their refrigerator, the area can remain undisturbed for long periods.

Reddit homeowners frequently report activity around refrigerators and ovens. In one pest-control thread, a homeowner described repeatedly finding evidence from a mouse believed to be traveling from underneath the refrigerator to underneath the oven.

Pull the refrigerator out carefully if it is safe to do so.

    Look for:

    • Droppings
    • Food debris
    • Gnawing
    • Gaps around the wall or floor
    • Evidence of travel along the baseboard

If you find fresh signs, this may be an excellent trapping location.

    Placement tip

Don’t simply put the trap somewhere behind the refrigerator.

Put it on the route where the evidence appears, ideally along the wall while keeping it accessible for inspection.

    2. Behind or Beside the Stove

    ★★★★★ Another kitchen hotspot

The stove is another area people rarely inspect.

Food particles can fall beside or underneath it.

    It also provides cover.

    If the mouse can move:

    Refrigerator → wall → stove → cabinets

you may have found an entire travel corridor.

That’s far better information than simply knowing, “There’s a mouse in my kitchen.”

Check along the wall behind and beside the stove where safe and accessible.

Never place a trap where heat, electrical connections or moving appliances could create a hazard.

    3. Under the Kitchen Sink

    ★★★★★ Check the pipes

Open the cabinet beneath your sink.

Now look where the plumbing enters the wall or floor.

Do you see gaps around the pipes?

These penetrations deserve attention because they may connect cabinets with hidden wall spaces or other parts of the building.

One 2026 Reddit homeowner described mice moving through a small opening near the sink and then entering cabinets.

If you find droppings or other evidence under the sink, placing a trap along an accessible travel edge may be useful.

    But remember:

Catching the mouse isn’t the final solution if there’s still an entry point behind the cabinet.

    We’ll come back to that.

    4. Along the Pantry Wall

    ★★★★★ Food + cover = investigate here

If you were a mouse, where would you go?

    Probably somewhere food is stored.

    Check the pantry carefully for:

    • Chewed boxes
    • Damaged bags
    • Droppings
    • Spilled cereal or grains
    • Pet food
    • Nuts
    • Seeds

Then inspect the wall edges and back corners.

Don’t put the trap in the middle of the pantry simply because that’s where you can see it easily.

    Follow the evidence.

And move food into secure containers so your trap isn’t competing with an entire supermarket.

    5. Inside the Back of Lower Cabinets

    ★★★★☆

Mice don’t care whether a space is convenient for humans.

A dark cabinet corner can provide a protected route between food, plumbing and wall openings.

This is particularly worth investigating when you find droppings inside cabinets.

    Look especially at:

Back corners → pipe openings → gaps between cabinetry and walls.

If you place a trap inside a cabinet, make sure it remains accessible and cannot be reached accidentally by children or pets.

    6. Along Baseboards Where You Find Droppings

    ★★★★★ Follow the evidence

This is one of the simplest strategies.

Fresh droppings can tell you where mouse activity is occurring.

In one Reddit discussion about mice inside walls, commenters recommended placing traps near the opening and where droppings had been found.

Don’t obsess over finding the theoretically perfect room.

If you repeatedly find fresh evidence along one wall, that’s telling you something.

    Mouse droppings are clues.

Treat your house like a crime scene.

    Where is the evidence concentrated?

    Start there.

    7. Near Suspected Entry Points

★★★★★ Critical for understanding the real problem

Suppose you discover a small gap near a pipe.

    Or beneath a cabinet.

    Or around a utility line.

And nearby you find fresh droppings.

You may have found more than a good trap location.

You may have found part of the reason mice are inside your house.

A Reddit DIY post showing a gap beneath a cabinet attracted dozens of comments focusing not only on trapping but on eventually closing the opening.

Another homeowner who discovered where mice were entering the kitchen used traps while waiting for an exterminator, with commenters discussing the importance of dealing with the infestation before permanently repairing the opening.

    This is important:

Trapping and exclusion are two different jobs.

The trap deals with mice already inside.

Exclusion helps stop new mice from entering.

    8. Garage Walls and Corners

    ★★★★☆

    Garages can be mouse-friendly environments.

Think about what may be stored there:

    Dog food.

    Bird seed.

    Grass seed.

    Cardboard boxes.

    Garbage.

    Camping food.

    Clutter.

And unlike the main living area, the garage may have larger gaps around doors and utility penetrations.

    Inspect:

Garage-door edges, wall perimeters, storage areas and the boundary between the garage and the house.

    Again, don’t scatter traps randomly.

    Follow droppings and damage.

If children, pets or wildlife can access the area, exposed snap traps may not be appropriate; choose a protected setup or seek professional advice.

    9. Attic or Crawlspace Access Areas

    ★★★★☆

Hearing scratching above your ceiling at night?

Don’t immediately start cutting holes into your house.

First investigate safely accessible transition points.

    Look around:

    • Attic access areas
    • Crawlspace entrances
    • Structural edges
    • Utility penetrations
    • Areas with droppings or nesting evidence

People discussing mice inside walls and ceilings on Reddit often describe how difficult the problem becomes when the animal is inside an inaccessible void.

If you’re dealing with electrical wiring, unsafe attic conditions, heavy contamination or inaccessible spaces, this is a good point to consider professional pest control rather than improvising.

    10. Behind Furniture Along a Wall

    ★★★☆☆ Often overlooked

Bedrooms and living rooms aren’t usually the first place people think about mouse traps.

But if you’ve seen evidence there, investigate.

    Large furniture creates hidden edges.

    A mouse may move behind:

    • Sofas
    • Bookcases
    • Entertainment centers
    • Dressers
    • Storage furniture

If fresh droppings repeatedly appear behind a sofa, putting a trap ten feet away in the center of the room makes little sense.

Put it where the activity is.

Exactly How Should a Snap Trap Face the Wall?

    This small detail matters.

For a traditional snap trap, a common recommended setup is:

    Wall

    ⬇

    BAIT/TRIGGER END

    TRAP

    ⬆

    Open room

In other words, position the trap perpendicular to the wall with the bait/trigger side closest to the wall, so a mouse traveling along the wall encounters the trigger area.

This perpendicular placement also appears repeatedly in experienced Reddit pest-control advice.

Don’t just place a trap parallel to the wall because it looks neat.

    You’re not decorating.

    You’re intercepting a travel route.

Should You Put Two Traps Together?

Sometimes using multiple traps along active routes makes sense.

If you have clear evidence of repeated activity in a particular area, several properly positioned traps can increase the chances of intercepting the mouse.

This is particularly useful when you don’t know the exact direction of travel.

But don’t respond to uncertainty by placing 20 traps randomly around the house.

More traps in bad locations are still badly placed traps.

    First find the activity.

    Then concentrate your effort.

Where NOT to Put a Mouse Trap

    This matters just as much.

❌ In the middle of an open room

Unless you have specific evidence mice are repeatedly crossing there.

    ❌ Somewhere you can’t check

A trap behind an inaccessible wall or permanently beneath built-in furniture creates another problem.

You should be able to inspect traps regularly.

❌ Where children can reach it

    Snap traps can injure fingers.

❌ Where pets can reach it

Dogs and cats may investigate bait.

    ❌ On food-preparation surfaces

    Don’t create unnecessary sanitation problems.

    ❌ Somewhere dangerous to access

Don’t climb into unsafe attic spaces or reach blindly around electrical wiring just because you heard scratching.

    Safety comes first.

The Reddit Lesson: Stop Moving the Bait — Move the Trap

This is one of my favorite lessons from reading mouse discussions online.

Homeowners often go through this sequence:

    Night 1: Peanut butter.

    Nothing.

    Night 2: Cheese.

    Nothing.

    Night 3: Chocolate.

    Nothing.

    Night 4: Bacon.

    Nothing.

At some point, the question should stop being:

“What else will this mouse eat?”

    and become:

“Is the mouse even walking past this trap?”

One Reddit discussion involved a mouse that had apparently lived inside a home for around six months despite multiple traps and several baits. The owners were seeing it travel between the refrigerator and oven — valuable information that mattered at least as much as the food placed on the traps.

Another discussion involving professional pest-control experience summarized it perfectly:

Proper placement is far more important than bait.

That’s the principle I would remember.

What If the Trap Is Still Empty After Several Nights?

Don’t automatically buy a different trap.

    Reinspect.

    Ask:

    Are the droppings fresh?

Did new evidence appear somewhere else?

    Is there another food source?

Did I actually place the trap on a travel route?

Has the mouse moved to another part of the house?

    A trap isn’t a surveillance camera.

An empty trap tells you only that it didn’t catch a mouse there.

It doesn’t necessarily mean there are no mice.

A Cheap Camera Can Reveal a Lot

Here’s a clever idea that appears repeatedly in homeowner discussions.

Some people use inexpensive indoor security cameras to watch mouse activity overnight.

One Reddit homeowner who had identified a kitchen entry point said a camera helped show when rodents were active and whether the traps were working.

Another homeowner literally watched a difficult mouse moving around a kitchen while trying different trapping strategies.

This isn’t necessary for most infestations.

But when you’ve spent days guessing where the mouse goes, seeing the actual route can change everything.

    You’re essentially doing nighttime reconnaissance.

What If You Hear Mice Inside the Wall?

This deserves its own future article because it’s a major search problem.

    If you hear:

    scratch… scratch… scratch…

inside the wall at 2 a.m., don’t panic.

    The important question becomes:

Where do they come out to find food?

In a Reddit pest-control discussion about mice inside walls, one response recommended placing traps near the accessible opening because the mice eventually have to leave the void to forage.

Don’t blindly put poison inside inaccessible wall spaces or cut into walls without understanding what’s behind them.

If the infestation is inaccessible, persistent or involves electrical/plumbing hazards, professional help may be appropriate.

    And yes:

We’re going to make “Mice in the Walls: What to Do When You Hear Scratching at Night” into a separate article later.

    That’s another excellent search keyword.

Trap Placement Is Only Half the Solution

Suppose you place the trap perfectly.

    You catch one mouse.

    Then another.

    Then another.

    Congratulations.

    But also:

Why are there so many mice entering your house?

At some point trapping becomes a symptom-management strategy.

The long-term job is finding how rodents are getting inside and preventing continued access.

    Look around:

    • Pipes
    • Utility cables
    • Door gaps
    • Foundation openings
    • Cabinet penetrations
    • Garage entrances
    • Exterior vents
    • Damaged building materials

That’s why the next stage after successful trapping is mouse-proofing your home.

My Simple Mouse Trap Placement Strategy

If I discovered mice in my kitchen tonight, I wouldn’t begin by putting traps everywhere.

    I’d do this:

Step 1 — Find fresh droppings and damage.

Step 2 — Check behind the refrigerator and stove.

Step 3 — Inspect beneath the sink and around pipes.

Step 4 — Identify the wall route connecting those areas.

Step 5 — Put traps directly on that route.

Step 6 — Remove accessible competing food.

Step 7 — Check the traps regularly.

Step 8 — Identify and eventually seal the entry points.

That’s a much better strategy than randomly putting traps around the house and hoping a mouse eventually finds one.

Best Bait + Best Location = Much Better Odds

This article connects directly with the previous two guides in our mouse-control series.

If your mouse is eating the bait without getting caught, read:

Mice Keep Stealing the Bait? Why Your Mouse Trap Isn’t Working

If you’re still deciding what food to use, read:

Best Mouse Trap Bait: Peanut Butter vs. Other Baits — What Actually Works?

    And remember:

You don’t necessarily need increasingly exotic bait.

Sometimes the solution is moving the trap three feet closer to the wall where the mouse actually runs.

Final Answer: Where Should You Place Mouse Traps?

If you remember only three things from this article, remember these:

    1. Follow the evidence.

Fresh droppings, gnawing and damaged food tell you where activity is occurring.

    2. Follow the walls.

Mice commonly use protected edges and routes rather than crossing exposed spaces unnecessarily.

    3. Find the entrance.

Catching the mouse already inside is useful.

Preventing the next mouse from entering is better.

The best mouse trap isn’t necessarily the expensive one.

And the best bait isn’t necessarily something exotic.

Sometimes the biggest improvement you can make costs absolutely nothing.

Move the trap to where the mouse actually is.

  • Best Mouse Trap Bait: Peanut Butter vs. Other Baits — What Actually Works?

Best Mouse Trap Bait: Peanut Butter vs. Other Baits — What Actually Works?

You hear a noise in the kitchen at night.

The next morning, you find a few tiny droppings behind the refrigerator.

So you buy a mouse trap.

Then comes the surprisingly difficult question:

What should you put on it?

    Cheese?

    Peanut butter?

    Chocolate?

    Bacon?

    Pet food?

Search online and you’ll find dozens of answers.

Search Reddit and things get even more interesting.

One person swears by peanut butter. Another says the mouse licked every bit of peanut butter off the trap without getting caught. Someone else recommends chocolate, pet kibble, jerky, cereal — or combinations that sound more like a snack recipe than pest control.

So what is actually the best mouse trap bait?

    The short answer is:

Peanut butter is still one of the best places to start.

But the longer answer is more useful.

Because successful mouse trapping isn’t only about what you put on the trap.

It’s also about how much you use, how securely the bait sits on the trigger, and where you put the trap.

Let’s separate official guidance from internet folklore.

Is Peanut Butter Really the Best Mouse Trap Bait?

There’s a reason peanut butter appears in almost every discussion about catching mice.

    It’s aromatic.

    It’s calorie-dense.

It’s easy to put on a trap.

And unlike a loose piece of food, it sticks to the trigger.

More importantly, peanut butter isn’t just a Reddit recommendation.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention specifically recommends putting a small amount of bait such as chunky peanut butter on the bait pan of a traditional snap trap.

Older CDC technical guidance has also described a mixture of peanut butter and rolled oats as suitable snap-trap bait.

So if you’re standing in your kitchen wondering what to try first:

    Start with peanut butter.

    But there is a catch.

The Biggest Peanut Butter Mistake: Using Too Much

    This sounds backwards.

If mice like peanut butter, shouldn’t more peanut butter attract them better?

    Not necessarily.

Your goal isn’t to feed the mouse.

Your goal is to make the mouse interact with the trap’s trigger.

The CDC recommends only a small amount of bait.

And this matches one of the most common complaints from homeowners online:

“The peanut butter disappeared, but the trap didn’t go off.”

In a popular Reddit discussion asking for the best mouse-trap bait, peanut butter received more than 150 upvotes.

But buried underneath were frustrated replies from people saying mice had managed to remove tiny amounts of peanut butter from multiple traps without triggering them.

    That’s the key lesson.

More bait isn’t necessarily better bait.

Use enough to attract the mouse, but not so much that it can enjoy dinner without properly contacting the trigger.

Why Does Peanut Butter Work So Well?

    There are several practical advantages.

    1. It sticks

A mouse can’t simply pick up a dab of peanut butter and run away with it like a piece of cheese.

    2. It has a strong food odor

This makes it useful in places where mice are already traveling.

    3. It can be worked into the bait area

That can force the mouse to spend more time interacting with the trigger.

    4. It’s inexpensive and easy to find

    You probably already have some.

That makes peanut butter a very good first bait.

But “good first bait” isn’t the same as “the only bait that ever works.”

What Does Reddit Say Is the Best Mouse Trap Bait?

This is where things become entertaining.

A long-running r/homestead discussion asked one simple question:

What is the best bait for a mouse trap?

Peanut butter dominated the discussion, but users also reported success with:

    • Chocolate
    • Chocolate chips
    • Pet kibble
    • Beef jerky
    • Dog treats
    • Sweet corn
    • Cereal
    • Sticky candy
    • Nuts

Some commenters described combining a solid food with peanut butter so that the mouse had to chew or pull at the bait rather than simply lick it away.

Another recent r/pestcontrol question came from someone who didn’t have peanut butter or chocolate spread and wondered whether cheese, jam, salami, cereal bars or other foods would work.

Even there, the discussion quickly turned toward a second issue:

How securely is the bait attached to the trigger?

    This is useful information.

    But remember:

Reddit anecdotes are not controlled scientific experiments.

A bait that caught six mice in someone’s garage isn’t automatically the world’s best mouse bait.

So let’s compare the major options more carefully.

    1. Peanut Butter — Best Overall Starting Point

    Verdict: ★★★★★

If you have no idea what to use, start here.

CDC guidance specifically recommends a small amount of chunky peanut butter as snap-trap bait.

    Advantages

    • Strong smell
    • Sticky
    • Cheap
    • Easy to apply
    • Officially recommended
    • Widely reported to work

    Disadvantage

A clever or very small mouse may sometimes lick accessible bait without triggering the trap.

That’s why quantity and placement matter.

    2. Peanut Butter + Oats — An Interesting Upgrade

    Verdict: ★★★★★

    This combination deserves more attention.

CDC technical material has recommended a mixture of peanut butter and rolled oats because the sticky mixture adheres to the trigger.

    It also makes intuitive sense.

Instead of a smooth dab that can potentially be licked away, the oats give the bait texture.

For someone repeatedly losing plain peanut butter from a trap, this is one of the first alternatives I would consider.

    3. Chocolate — The Reddit Favorite Alternative

    Verdict: ★★★★☆

Chocolate appears surprisingly often in Reddit mouse-control discussions.

Several users report success with chocolate chips or chocolate-based candy, particularly when peanut butter hasn’t worked.

Older public pest-management guidance has also listed chocolate candy among foods attractive to rodents.

    The problem

A loose chocolate chip can potentially be removed.

If you’re using a solid bait, the way it is secured to the trap becomes important.

Follow the trap manufacturer’s instructions and avoid modifications that interfere with its safe operation.

    4. Pet Food — Convenient If You Already Have It

    Verdict: ★★★☆☆

Dog and cat kibble appears regularly in homeowner discussions.

    And it makes sense.

If mice are already stealing your pet’s food, you have evidence that the food is attractive to the mice in your house.

Public pest-control guidance has also listed dog or cat kibble among foods that can attract rodents.

    But there’s a practical drawback.

A dry piece of kibble can be easier to remove than a sticky bait.

That brings us back to the same principle:

    Attraction isn’t everything.

The mouse needs to interact with the trigger.

    5. Bacon, Sausage and Meat — Do They Work?

    Verdict: ★★★☆☆

Forget the cartoon stereotype that mice only want cheese.

Rodents can be attracted to many calorie-rich foods.

Older pest-management guidance lists foods including bacon and sausage among possible rodent baits.

Reddit users also occasionally report success with jerky and meat-based pet treats.

    But these foods have disadvantages.

    They can spoil.

    They can smell.

    And they may attract insects.

For a normal household snap trap, I would still start with peanut butter before opening the bacon package.

    6. Cheese — Is the Cartoon Actually Right?

    Verdict: ★★☆☆☆

    Mice can certainly eat cheese.

The problem is that the question isn’t:

    “Will a mouse eat this?”

    The question is:

“Is this the most practical bait for this trap?”

A loose piece of cheese can potentially be removed.

Some pest-control guidance recommends securing non-sticky bait to the trigger so rodents can’t simply steal it.

    So cheese isn’t useless.

It’s just not automatically superior because cartoons have spent a century telling us mice love it.

If peanut butter is available, that’s still where I’d begin.

    7. Nuts and Seeds — Worth Trying in the Right Situation

    Verdict: ★★★☆☆

Mice naturally consume grains, seeds and other foods.

Nuts and seeds also appear repeatedly in trapping discussions.

Some Reddit users describe pressing nuts into bait mechanisms or combining seeds with peanut butter.

    Again, don’t overcomplicate it.

If peanut butter is working, there is no reason to create an elaborate mouse tasting menu.

But if the mice are ignoring your bait and you know they have been eating bird seed, cereal or nuts elsewhere in the house, that information is useful.

    8. What About Nesting Material Instead of Food?

Here’s something many homeowners don’t consider.

Food isn’t the only thing a mouse may want.

Some pest-management guidance suggests that nesting material such as cotton can sometimes be attached to a trap trigger instead of food.

This can be especially interesting when food bait isn’t attracting attention.

But for the average homeowner beginning with a normal mouse problem, I’d still keep things simple:

Start with a properly positioned snap trap and a small amount of peanut butter.

The Best Bait May Be the Food Your Mice Are Already Eating

This is one of the smartest practical ideas.

Suppose you discover a cereal package with chew marks.

Or your dog food keeps disappearing overnight.

Or you find evidence that something has been eating bird seed in the garage.

    That tells you something.

The mouse has already revealed a food preference.

So instead of searching endlessly for the internet’s universal “best mouse bait,” look at the evidence inside your own home.

What are your mice already stealing?

That can sometimes be more useful than another top-ten list.

The Secret Isn’t Always Better Bait — It’s Better Placement

This is probably the most important section of the article.

You could have the most irresistible mouse bait ever invented.

It won’t help much if the trap is sitting in the middle of a room the mouse never crosses.

The CDC recommends placing snap traps on the floor against a wall, with the baited end beside the wall so the trap forms a T shape with it.

    Why?

Rodents tend to travel next to walls and objects for protection.

    Look for:

    • Droppings
    • Gnaw marks
    • Damaged food packages
    • Nesting material
    • Urine evidence
    • Activity behind appliances
    • Activity beneath sinks
    • Activity inside cabinets

The EPA also lists droppings, nesting material, chewed food packaging, holes and stale odors among common signs of rodent infestation.

    Find the mouse highway first.

    Then put your bait there.

What If the Mouse Eats the Bait but Never Gets Caught?

This is exactly the problem we covered in our previous guide.

    If bait keeps disappearing:

    First, use less.

Then check whether the bait is properly positioned on the trigger.

Next, move the trap onto an actual travel route.

And consider whether you need more than one trap.

If you’re experiencing this exact problem, read:

Mice Keep Stealing the Bait? Why Your Mouse Trap Isn’t Working

That guide explains why mice can sometimes eat the bait without triggering the trap and how trap placement changes the odds.

What If Nothing Touches the Bait?

    Different problem.

If the peanut butter remains untouched night after night, consider three possibilities:

The trap is in the wrong place.

The mice have another food source.

There may not currently be mouse activity at that location.

    Don’t automatically keep changing foods.

    Look for fresh evidence.

The EPA recommends removing accessible food and water sources, keeping garbage tightly contained and eliminating potential nesting sites as part of rodent control.

Your trap shouldn’t have to compete with an open bag of dog food ten feet away.

How Long Should You Keep Trapping?

Don’t stop simply because you caught one mouse.

The CDC recommends continuing to trap until rodent activity has stopped.

If there are no captures and no new signs such as droppings, urine spots or gnawing for a week, that is a useful indication that the rodents may be gone.

But if fresh evidence keeps appearing, trapping alone may not solve the problem.

Which brings us to the part that matters more than any bait.

The Best Mouse Bait Won’t Fix a Hole in Your House

This is where people can waste weeks.

    Catch mouse.

    Reset trap.

    Catch another mouse.

    Reset trap.

    Catch another.

At some point, you need to ask:

    How are they getting inside?

The EPA says some of the most important steps for eliminating and preventing rodent infestations are keeping living areas clean, preventing rodent access and eliminating nesting opportunities.

It specifically recommends sealing holes inside and outside the home and removing food, water and shelter sources.

This is the real long-term solution.

A trap removes the mouse already inside.

Sealing the entry point helps stop the next one.

    What About Poison Bait?

Don’t confuse food used on a snap trap with commercial rodenticide bait.

    They’re very different things.

If an infestation persists, EPA-registered rodenticide bait stations are another control option, but they must be used exactly according to label instructions.

The EPA emphasizes keeping rodenticides away from children and pets and using the bait station supplied with consumer rodenticide products.

The CDC similarly recommends traditional snap traps first and says poison or bait stations may be considered for persistent infestations.

    Don’t improvise with poison.

    One More Important Safety Tip

    Whatever bait you choose:

Keep traps away from children and pets.

Both CDC and EPA guidance emphasize this.

And if you catch a mouse, don’t handle the rodent casually with bare hands.

The CDC provides specific guidance for disinfecting and disposing of trapped rodents safely.

So, What Is the Best Mouse Trap Bait?

If you want one simple answer:

Start with a small amount of peanut butter.

That’s supported by current CDC guidance.

If that isn’t working, don’t immediately assume the mouse dislikes peanut butter.

    Check:

How much bait are you using?

Can the mouse remove it without triggering the trap?

Is the trap actually on the mouse’s travel route?

Is another food source more attractive?

    Then experiment.

Peanut butter with oats can be worth trying.

Chocolate, kibble, nuts and other foods have worked for homeowners in different circumstances.

Reddit is full of creative experiments.

But the biggest lesson from both official guidance and homeowner experiences is surprisingly simple:

The best bait on a badly placed trap is still a badly placed trap.

    Find where the mouse travels.

Use a small amount of attractive bait.

    Set the trap correctly.

    Remove other food sources.

And seal the holes that allowed the mice inside.

Because the ultimate goal isn’t finding the perfect mouse snack.

It’s reaching the point where you don’t need a mouse trap at all.

  • Mice Keep Stealing the Bait? Why Your Mouse Trap Isn’t Working — and What Reddit Users Tried

Mice Keep Stealing the Bait? Why Your Mouse Trap Isn’t Working — and What Reddit Users Tried

You set the mouse trap before going to bed.

You put peanut butter on it.

You place it exactly where you think the mouse has been running.

The next morning, you check the trap.

    The peanut butter is gone.

    The mouse is not.

Even worse, sometimes there are fresh mouse droppings nearby.

If this has happened to you, you are definitely not alone.

Across Reddit pest-control and home-improvement communities, homeowners repeatedly describe the same frustrating problem: mice eating bait without triggering snap traps, ignoring traps completely, or continuing to appear even after several mice have already been caught.

    So what is going wrong?

The answer may not be the bait.

Sometimes the bigger problem is how much bait you use, where you put the trap, how the trap is positioned — and whether new mice are still entering your house.

Here are the most common reasons a mouse trap doesn’t work and what you can do about them.

    1. You’re Probably Using Too Much Bait

This is one of the simplest mistakes.

A giant blob of peanut butter might seem more attractive to a hungry mouse.

    But you don’t need much.

The CDC recommends placing only a small amount of bait on the bait pan of a snap trap. Chunky peanut butter is one of the baits it specifically recommends.

Why can too much bait be a problem?

A mouse may be able to nibble or lick at accessible bait without applying enough pressure to the trigger.

That exact frustration appears repeatedly on Reddit.

One 2026 r/HomeImprovement discussion began with a homeowner saying mice were repeatedly eating bait from snap traps. Other users immediately asked whether too much peanut butter was being used and suggested working a small amount into the trigger area rather than leaving a large, easily accessible serving.

    Try this instead

Use a very small amount of peanut butter concentrated on the bait pan/trigger, following your trap manufacturer’s directions.

    Think:

    tiny target, not free dinner.

    2. The Trap May Be in the Wrong Place

This may be even more important than changing from peanut butter to another food.

Mice don’t usually wander randomly across an open room looking for your trap.

They commonly travel close to walls and objects where they feel protected.

That’s why the CDC recommends placing snap traps against the wall with the baited end next to the wall, forming a “T” shape with it.

    Good places to investigate include:

    • Behind the refrigerator
    • Behind the stove
    • Under the sink
    • Inside the back of cabinets
    • Near droppings
    • Near gnaw marks
    • Along baseboards
    • Near suspected entry points
    • In basements, attics and crawlspaces

The CDC specifically recommends targeting places where you’ve found droppings, urine, nesting material, gnawed food or other evidence of rodent activity.

    The important lesson:

Don’t put the trap where it’s convenient for you.

Put it where the mouse actually travels.

    3. Peanut Butter Isn’t Necessarily the Problem

Search Reddit for mouse traps and you’ll quickly discover an entire underground science of mouse bait.

    People suggest everything imaginable.

    Peanut butter.

    Pet food.

    Chocolate.

    Nuts.

    Bacon.

    Sticky candy.

    And combinations of several foods.

    One Reddit thread specifically asked:

“Mice keep stealing my bait on the snap trap — what can I put on it that they can’t steal?”

The discussion has continued receiving replies years after the original post, with users sharing their own experiments.

Another pest-control discussion involved someone whose peanut butter had initially caught mice but later seemed to be ignored completely.

Before turning your kitchen into a mouse-bait laboratory, however, remember something important.

Peanut butter itself is not a bad bait.

The CDC specifically lists chunky peanut butter as an appropriate snap-trap bait.

So if peanut butter isn’t working, don’t immediately conclude that you need some magical secret food.

Check your bait amount, trap position and mouse travel route first.

    4. Reddit Users Have an Interesting Theory: Make the Mouse Work for the Bait

Here’s where the Reddit discussions get interesting.

Several users describe trying to make the bait more difficult to remove.

Some report pressing peanut butter into or around the trigger.

Others describe combining peanut butter with a small piece of dry food so the mouse has to tug at it.

Another Reddit user reported warming a sticky candy and molding it onto the trap so the mouse had to exert more force while feeding.

These are anecdotal Reddit experiences, not official CDC recommendations, so I wouldn’t treat them as scientifically proven techniques.

But they reveal an important practical idea:

If a mouse can casually lick food from a trap without interacting properly with the trigger, simply adding more bait may make the problem worse rather than better.

Before modifying a trap, always follow the manufacturer’s instructions and don’t alter safety mechanisms.

    5. Your Mouse May Be Walking Around the Trap

One of the funniest — and most frustrating — Reddit mouse stories involves people actually watching mice avoid traps.

In one discussion, a homeowner installed a Wi-Fi camera in the kitchen.

The mouse appeared two or three times a day.

The owner could literally watch it.

But it ignored or avoided multiple types of traps and several different baits.

The kitchen eventually became, in the homeowner’s words, essentially a collection of useless traps while the mouse kept coming back.

That story illustrates why location matters so much.

    Instead of asking:

“What food does this mouse want?”

    ask:

“Where does this mouse actually walk?”

    Look for physical evidence.

    Droppings are particularly useful.

So are gnaw marks, nesting materials and damaged food packages.

The EPA lists all of these as common signs of rodent infestation.

    Find the highway.

Then put the trap on the highway.

    6. One Trap May Not Be Enough

Another common mistake is buying one mouse trap and expecting the problem to disappear overnight.

If you see one mouse, you don’t necessarily know how many are present.

The CDC recommends setting traps throughout affected areas and continuing to trap until rodent activity has stopped.

Older CDC technical guidance also recommends using multiple traps in infested areas because more traps increase the likelihood that rodents will encounter them.

    So don’t think:

    One mouse = one trap.

    Think:

Where is the activity occurring, and how can I intercept those routes?

    7. What If the Mouse Seems Afraid of the Trap?

This issue is especially important when dealing with rats, which the CDC notes can be cautious around new objects.

For cautious rodents, the CDC suggests pre-baiting: placing bait on the trap without setting it at first, allowing the animal to become accustomed to it.

Once the bait begins disappearing, the trap can then be set.

Don’t automatically assume the animal has developed some genius understanding of mechanical engineering.

Rodents can simply be cautious about unfamiliar objects.

    8. The Real Problem May Not Be Your Mouse Trap at All

This is the part many homeowners miss.

Imagine that you successfully catch a mouse tonight.

    Then another tomorrow.

    Then another two days later.

At some point you have to ask:

    Where are they coming from?

One recent Reddit user described an infestation lasting many months despite regular exterminator visits and bait stations. The homeowner’s frustration was that trapping and baiting seemed to reduce individual mice without eliminating the underlying problem.

This is where official pest-control guidance becomes especially important.

The EPA recommends inspecting for and sealing holes inside and outside the home, while also removing food, water and potential nesting sources.

The CDC gives essentially the same broader strategy:

    Find how rodents are entering.

    Seal the openings.

Then trap the rodents still inside.

This means catching mice is only one part of mouse control.

    9. Check These Mouse Entry Points

    Look carefully around your home.

Pay particular attention to areas around:

    • Plumbing penetrations
    • Pipes beneath sinks
    • Utility lines
    • Doors
    • Wall openings
    • Floors
    • Cabinets
    • Basement areas
    • Attics
    • Crawlspaces
    • Areas behind appliances

The EPA notes that holes chewed through walls and floors can create rodent entry points and recommends sealing openings inside and outside the home.

If mice continue entering faster than you’re catching them, experimenting with increasingly exotic bait isn’t going to solve the real problem.

You’re operating a mouse removal service.

You need to close the entrance.

    10. Food Sources Around the House Matter Too

Your peanut butter trap is competing with everything else a mouse can eat.

    Pet food.

    Crumbs.

    Garbage.

    Pantry food.

    Compost.

    Food left beneath appliances.

The EPA recommends removing food and water sources, keeping garbage in containers with tight-fitting lids and reducing other potential sources of food and shelter.

    This is an overlooked point.

If your kitchen offers an all-you-can-eat buffet every night, your tiny dab of peanut butter isn’t necessarily the irresistible attraction you imagine.

    11. What About Glue Traps?

This is where internet advice and official health guidance can differ.

You will find plenty of Reddit users discussing glue traps.

However, the CDC currently recommends traditional snap traps for household rodent control and advises against glue traps and live traps because frightened rodents may urinate, potentially increasing exposure to disease.

For that reason, I would follow the CDC guidance rather than simply copying whatever trap happens to be popular in an online discussion.

    12. Be Careful With Poison — Especially Around Children and Pets

Poison bait is another subject that appears constantly in online discussions.

But this isn’t something to improvise.

The EPA says rodenticide bait products should be used according to label directions and emphasizes tamper-resistant bait stations and protection of children, pets and wildlife.

The CDC recommends considering poison or bait stations when infestations persist and recommends EPA-registered products.

If you’re dealing with a significant infestation or can’t identify the entry points, professional pest control may be the better option.

    The 5-Minute Mouse Trap Checklist

Before buying another trap, check these seven things:

    1. Am I using only a small amount of bait?
    2. Is the bait positioned correctly on the trigger/bait pan?
    3. Is the trap against the wall on a known mouse route?
    4. Have I found droppings or gnaw marks showing where mice travel?
    5. Am I using enough traps for the affected area?
    6. Have I removed competing food sources?
    7. Have I found and sealed possible entry points?

If you answer “no” to several of these questions, changing the bait probably isn’t your first priority.

What Reddit Gets Right — and What It Doesn’t

Reddit is extremely useful for one reason:

People describe what actually happened in their homes.

They tell you when peanut butter disappeared.

They describe mice walking around traps.

They post about traps that mysteriously vanished.

They return months later to report what they tried.

For example, one homeowner reported catching around 11 mice in two days — only to discover that several traps themselves subsequently disappeared. Other users discussed the possibility of partially trapped mice dragging them away.

    That’s fascinating practical information.

    But Reddit is still Reddit.

Individual experiences aren’t controlled experiments, and advice from anonymous commenters can be wrong.

    So the best approach is:

Use Reddit to discover the problem.

Use authoritative sources to verify the solution.

For this article, the key recommendations on trap type, placement, bait quantity, sanitation and exclusion are based primarily on guidance from the CDC and U.S. EPA.

The Mouse Isn’t Necessarily Smarter Than You

After three mornings of finding an empty trap, it can certainly feel that way.

    But don’t overcomplicate the problem.

A mouse trap that isn’t working usually doesn’t mean you have discovered the world’s smartest mouse.

    Start with the basics.

Use a small amount of bait.

Place the trap where mice actually travel.

Put the baited end against the wall.

    Use multiple traps where necessary.

    Remove competing food sources.

    And most importantly:

Find out how the mice are getting inside.

Because catching tonight’s mouse feels satisfying.

Stopping tomorrow night’s mouse from entering is how you actually solve the problem.

Korean Temple Stay Guide: Sleep in a Buddhist Temple and Discover a Different Side of Korea

Seoul is a city that rarely seems to stop.

Subways run beneath crowded streets. Cafés stay busy late into the evening. Neon signs glow, delivery motorcycles move through narrow alleys, and people seem to be going somewhere at almost every hour of the day.

But travel a little outside the city — or sometimes simply toward the mountains surrounding it — and Korea can suddenly feel completely different.

You may hear wind moving through pine trees.

    A wooden temple bell.

    Birds in the mountains.

The quiet footsteps of a monk crossing an old courtyard.

And if you stay overnight, you may wake before sunrise and experience something very different from the Korea of K-pop, skyscrapers and shopping districts.

This is a Korean Templestay (템플스테이).

But before explaining how to book one, there is something important foreign travelers should understand.

To Koreans, a Buddhist temple is not necessarily a place visited only by Buddhists.

Sometimes it is also a mountain destination, a historic site, a place to rest — or simply somewhere to clear your mind.

And understanding that may completely change the way you experience a Korean temple.

You Don’t Have to Be Buddhist to Visit a Korean Temple

This may surprise some foreign visitors.

A Korean who visits a Buddhist temple is not necessarily Buddhist.

    A Christian may visit.

    A Catholic may visit.

Someone with no religion at all may visit.

Many Koreans go to temples while hiking, to see autumn leaves or spring flowers, to appreciate historic architecture, or simply because they want somewhere peaceful to walk.

For many people, visiting a temple does not mean changing their religion.

It means visiting an important part of Korean history and culture.

And sometimes it means something even simpler:

    They just need somewhere quiet.

    This is an important distinction.

A Buddhist temple remains a sacred religious space and should always be treated respectfully.

But culturally, many Korean temples are also deeply connected with mountains, landscapes, architecture, history and ordinary leisure.

That is why seeing hikers walking through a temple courtyard should not surprise you.

They may have come for Buddhism.

They may have come for the mountain.

    Or perhaps for both.

Why Are So Many Korean Temples in the Mountains?

If you travel around Korea, you will notice something interesting.

Many of the country’s most memorable Buddhist temples are surrounded by mountains and forests.

This isn’t just a travel stereotype.

Korea’s tradition of mountain monasteries is historically significant enough that seven Sansa, Buddhist Mountain Monasteries in Korea were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2018.

The seven are Tongdosa, Buseoksa, Bongjeongsa, Beopjusa, Magoksa, Seonamsa and Daeheungsa. They were established between the 7th and 9th centuries and remain living centers of Buddhist faith and practice today.

But Korean Buddhism was not always exclusively a mountain religion.

Buddhism flourished in ancient Korean kingdoms, and important Buddhist sites also existed around political and urban centers. UNESCO’s Gyeongju documentation, for example, records extensive Buddhist remains from the Silla period, including temples, pagodas and sculptures.

Over Korea’s long history, however, mountain monasteries became an especially distinctive part of Korean Buddhist culture.

During the Joseon Dynasty, Buddhism experienced centuries of suppression, yet mountain monasteries survived and continued their religious traditions. UNESCO specifically identifies this historical continuity as one of the important characteristics of Korea’s Sansa.

    Today, the result is extraordinary.

In Korea, a trip to a temple can also become a journey into the mountains.

And sometimes getting there is part of the experience.

Sometimes Koreans Go to a Temple While Hiking

Hiking is extremely popular in Korea.

On weekends, mountains around major cities fill with people wearing hiking shoes, backpacks and brightly colored outdoor clothing.

And because temples are often located on or near mountain routes, the two experiences naturally meet.

    You climb.

    You enter the forest.

    The city noise gradually disappears.

Then somewhere along the trail, you may see the curved roof of a Buddhist temple between the trees.

    People stop.

    Some enter the temple.

    Some bow.

    Others simply look around.

Someone may drink water and rest before continuing up the mountain.

This is one reason I don’t think foreign visitors should view Korean temples only through the lens of religion.

They are also connected to Korea’s relationship with its mountains and natural environment.

A Temple Can Be a Place to Clear Your Mind

There is another Korean expression worth understanding:

    마음을 비우다 — maeumeul biuda.

Literally, it means something like “emptying the mind.”

People use it when talking about letting go of worries, desires or complicated thoughts.

You don’t have to be Buddhist to understand the feeling.

Modern Korean life can be extremely fast.

    Work.

    Study.

    Traffic.

    Competition.

    Phones.

    Messages.

    Deadlines.

Sometimes people simply want to disappear from that world for a while.

A mountain and a quiet temple can provide exactly that.

That leads to one of the ideas I most want foreign travelers to understand:

In Korea, a temple is not only a place you visit because of what you believe. Sometimes, it is simply a place you visit because you need a mountain, a quiet path, and a little time to think.

And this is where Templestay becomes especially interesting.

Instead of visiting for thirty minutes and leaving, you stay.

    What Is a Korean Templestay?

Templestay is an organized cultural program that allows visitors to experience life inside a Korean Buddhist temple.

The official Templestay organization describes it as a way to experience Korean traditional culture and Buddhism through activities that can include chanting, meditation, conversations over tea and Buddhist meals.

The modern Templestay program began in 2002, around the time Korea hosted the FIFA World Cup, as a way to introduce Korean temple culture to international visitors.

Today, it isn’t limited to Buddhists.

It attracts Koreans and international travelers looking for cultural experiences, meditation, rest and time away from everyday life.

And you don’t necessarily have to sleep overnight.

There are several types of programs.

    Three Types of Templestay

The official program broadly divides Templestay experiences into different styles.

    1. One-Day Templestay

    Short on time?

This is probably the easiest introduction.

A one-day experience can last around two or three hours and may include a temple tour, meditation or tea.

For someone spending only a few days in Seoul, this can be a practical option.

    2. Experience-Oriented Templestay

This is the one I would recommend if you want the full cultural experience.

It typically involves an overnight stay and may include activities such as morning chanting, meditation, 108 prostrations, Buddhist meals and traditional cultural activities.

Specific programs differ from temple to temple.

    3. Rest-Oriented Templestay

    This is different.

You are not trying to complete a long checklist of activities.

The goal is largely to rest.

    Walk.

    Sit.

    Read.

    Meditate.

    Look at the mountains.

    Do very little.

For a traveler exhausted after several days racing around Seoul and Busan, that may actually be exactly what you need.

What Does One Night in a Korean Temple Actually Look Like?

Every temple has a different schedule, so don’t expect every Templestay to follow exactly the same program.

    But here’s a real 2026 example.

Myogaksa Temple in Seoul currently offers an English-supported 2-day, 1-night program that includes orientation, 108 prostrations and prayer-bead making, bell striking, a Buddhist ceremony, a temple tour, dinner and meditation.

The following morning begins extremely early — its listed schedule includes waking around 4 a.m. and a Buddhist ceremony beginning at 5 a.m.

That early morning can be one of the most memorable parts of the experience.

Imagine waking while the city is still dark.

    No traffic.

    No hotel television.

    No shopping.

Just the temple and the sound of morning beginning.

That is an experience a conventional hotel cannot give you.

    What Are the 108 Prostrations?

You may see 108 bows, or prostrations, included in an experience-oriented Templestay.

    This is not simply exercise.

Within Buddhist practice, the number 108 carries religious significance, and the repeated bows can become a form of reflection and discipline.

Physically, however, 108 full bows can be demanding.

Don’t turn it into a competition.

If you have physical limitations or feel unwell, speak with the Templestay staff. The official Templestay FAQ says participants who are ill or too tired can inform staff and rest rather than participating in every activity.

Meditation: Perhaps the Simplest Part — and the Hardest

    Sit still.

    Breathe.

    Don’t check your phone.

    Sounds easy.

    Then try doing it.

For many people, the difficult part of meditation isn’t sitting.

It’s discovering just how noisy their own mind is.

A Templestay gives you an environment in which slowing down feels natural.

    The mountain helps.

    The temple helps.

The absence of your normal routine helps.

You may not achieve enlightenment in one night.

That’s probably asking a bit much.

But you might discover how rarely you actually sit without doing anything.

    Tea With a Buddhist Monk

Some programs include conversation over tea.

This is often one of the more approachable experiences for foreign visitors because it provides an opportunity to ask questions about temple life, Buddhism or simply everyday concerns.

You don’t need to arrive with a profound philosophical question.

Sometimes a cup of tea and a conversation in a quiet room can be enough.

The Templestay Information Center itself also provides information on temple meals and cultural experiences, including tea-related activities.

Korean Temple Food Is Part of the Experience

For True Taste Korea readers, this is where the experience becomes particularly interesting.

Temple food is another doorway into Korean culture.

Traditional Korean Buddhist food is generally plant-based and emphasizes simplicity, seasonality and respect for ingredients.

But don’t expect your temple meal to resemble the giant colorful Korean barbecue spread you may have eaten the night before.

    That is precisely the point.

The meal is part of a different rhythm of life.

Some Templestay programs may also introduce balwoogongyang (발우공양), the traditional Buddhist monastic meal practice using bowls.

The official Templestay program lists Buddhist meals with traditional bowls among activities that can appear in experience-oriented stays.

And temple food deserves an article of its own.

Because Korean food isn’t only barbecue, fried chicken and spicy stew.

There is another tradition built around vegetables, fermentation, restraint and Buddhist philosophy.

Will I Have to Share a Room?

    Possibly.

This is not necessarily a hotel.

The official Templestay guidance explains that temple life is traditionally communal and participants may share sleeping spaces. Some temples offer private rooms for small groups for an additional charge, but this depends on the individual program.

That means you should check the accommodation conditions before booking if privacy is important to you.

Also don’t expect luxury bedding, room service and a minibar.

You are going to experience temple life.

    That’s the attraction.

    What Should You Wear?

Follow the instructions provided by your particular temple.

Templestay participants are commonly given simple temple clothing to wear during the program.

    Dress modestly and comfortably.

Remember that you are staying inside an active religious community, not visiting a themed resort.

Comfortable shoes are particularly useful if the program involves walking around mountainous temple grounds.

Do I Need to Speak Korean?

    Not necessarily.

The official reservation system lets travelers search for temples and programs suitable for foreigners, and a number of programs provide English support.

But don’t assume every rural temple offers full English interpretation.

Check the language information for the exact program before booking.

If language accessibility is your priority, Seoul is an easy place to start.

The official Templestay site lists seven conveniently located Seoul temples including Bongeunsa, Geumsunsa, Hwagyesa, Jinkwansa, Jogyesa, Myogaksa and the International Seon Center.

You Can Even Do a Templestay in the Middle of Seoul

    This surprises many travelers.

You don’t always have to travel deep into rural Korea.

For example, Bongeunsa sits in Gangnam, surrounded by one of the most modern districts in Seoul.

Its regular 2026 weekend Templestay is currently listed at ₩120,000 per person, although prices and schedules can change.

    Myogaksa’s current English-supported 2-day/1-night program is listed at ₩95,000.

Those aren’t universal Templestay prices — they simply show that programs, schedules and costs vary.

Always check the current listing before booking.

But the Mountain Temples Offer Something Seoul Cannot

    Urban temples are convenient.

    Mountain temples are different.

Imagine waking up and opening the door to mist moving between mountains.

Or walking through a forest before breakfast.

Or hearing temple bells echo through a valley.

Korea’s seven UNESCO-listed Sansa are especially important examples of the country’s mountain-monastery tradition, preserving religious practice, meditation spaces, monastic education and daily community life within natural mountain settings.

This is where the journey itself matters.

Getting to some temples can take more effort.

    You may need a bus.

    Then another local bus.

    Then perhaps a walk.

For travelers accustomed to stepping out of a subway station directly beside an attraction, this can initially feel inconvenient.

But don’t automatically treat that inconvenience as a disadvantage.

The road from the city into the mountain is part of the transition.

    The buildings get smaller.

    Traffic disappears.

    Trees replace signs.

And eventually you reach the temple.

Korea Also Has a Temple Beside the Sea

    Then there is Busan.

If your image of a Korean Buddhist temple is always “deep in the mountains,” visit Haedong Yonggungsa (해동용궁사).

This temple sits dramatically along the northeastern coast of Busan.

Korea Tourism Organization specifically notes how unusual the location is because most Korean temples are situated in the mountains, while Haedong Yonggungsa stands along the shoreline.

Here, instead of mountain silence, you hear waves.

Temple roofs appear against the blue sea.

    Rocky coastline surrounds the complex.

And at sunrise, the combination can be spectacular.

The official Busan tourism site currently lists the temple at 86 Yonggung-gil, Gijang-gun, with free admission and opening hours of 4:30 a.m.–7:20 p.m., last entry at 6:50 p.m.; travelers should recheck before visiting because operating information can change.

If you’re visiting Busan, I would seriously consider adding it to your itinerary even if you have no interest in Buddhism.

It is an excellent example of the point of this entire article:

A Korean temple can simultaneously be a religious space, a historical place and an extraordinary travel destination.

Religion in Korea Is More Complicated — and More Flexible — Than a Label

There is another cultural point worth understanding.

Korea has Buddhists, Protestants, Catholics, people belonging to other religious traditions and many people who identify with no religion.

There have certainly been tensions between religions at different points in Korean history and modern society.

So it would be inaccurate to claim that Korea has never experienced religious conflict.

But everyday cultural boundaries can be more flexible than foreign visitors might expect.

A person doesn’t necessarily feel that entering a Buddhist temple means abandoning another faith.

People may appreciate Buddhist architecture, history and nature without participating in Buddhist belief.

Korea also has historical examples of religious communities participating in broader national and social causes.

And Buddhism itself played striking roles during periods of national crisis. At Namhansanseong, for example, UNESCO records that Buddhist soldier-monks participated in the fortress’s defense and construction during the Joseon period.

So when you see Koreans visiting temples, don’t immediately ask:

    “Are all these people Buddhist?”

    That’s often the wrong question.

    A better question is:

“What does this place mean to them?”

    The answer may be faith.

But it may also be history, nature, family memories, hiking, architecture, rest — or simply peace.

    Temple Etiquette for Foreign Visitors

You do not need to know every Buddhist custom before visiting.

You do need to remember that this is a living religious space.

A few basics go a long way:

    • Keep your voice low, particularly around prayer halls.
    • Dress respectfully.
    • Don’t interrupt ceremonies for photographs.
    • Ask before photographing monks or participants closely.
    • Follow instructions about shoes before entering buildings.
    • Don’t touch religious objects unnecessarily.
    • Arrive on time for scheduled Templestay activities.
    • Remember that people around you may genuinely be praying or practicing their faith.

At Haedong Yonggungsa, for example, Busan’s official visitor guidance specifically asks visitors to lower their voices, organize their shoes and use the appropriate side entrances to the Buddhist sanctuary.

Respect doesn’t require you to be Buddhist.

It simply requires remembering where you are.

Is Templestay Only for Spiritual People?

    Absolutely not.

You might choose a Templestay because you love Korean history.

    Because you enjoy hiking.

Because you want to learn about Buddhist architecture.

Because you’re interested in temple food.

    Because you’re exhausted.

    Because Seoul has overwhelmed you.

Or simply because sleeping in a mountain monastery sounds more memorable than another night in a hotel.

You don’t need to arrive looking for enlightenment.

    Sometimes curiosity is enough.

Who Should Try a Korean Templestay?

I particularly recommend it to travelers who have already experienced the faster side of Korea.

    If your itinerary has been:

    Myeongdong → Hongdae → shopping → K-pop → café → nightlife → another café…

    Templestay provides the opposite experience.

And that’s why it works so well.

A Korea trip doesn’t have to choose between modern and traditional Korea.

    Experience both.

Watch thousands of people sing together at a KBO baseball game.

Eat ramen beside the Han River at night.

Spend hours relaxing in a jjimjilbang.

Then go into the mountains and spend a night in silence.

Those experiences may look completely unrelated.

Together, they tell you much more about Korea than a checklist of landmarks ever could.

How to Book a Korean Templestay

The easiest starting point for international visitors is the official English Templestay website.

Search and book Korean Templestay programs

You can search by temple, location, dates and program type.

    Check carefully for:

language support, accommodation arrangements, arrival time, activities, meals, price and transportation.

If you don’t have time for an overnight stay, search for one-day programs.

If you want the fullest experience, choose an experience-oriented overnight program.

If what you really need is rest, look for a rest-oriented stay.

    And if you aren’t sure?

The Templestay Information Center in Jongno, Seoul provides information for both Korean and international visitors.

The Korea You Hear When Everything Else Becomes Quiet

Foreign visitors often come to Korea because they want to see something.

    A palace.

    A skyline.

    A K-pop concert.

    A market.

    A famous restaurant.

Templestay asks you to do almost the opposite.

Stop looking for the next attraction.

    Sit.

    Listen.

    Eat quietly.

    Walk through the forest.

    Wake before sunrise.

And perhaps for one night, allow Korea to become quiet.

You may leave without becoming Buddhist.

You may leave without understanding every ceremony.

    That’s perfectly fine.

Because the most valuable thing you take away might be much simpler.

    A mountain path.

    The smell of the forest.

    A bowl of temple food.

A bell echoing through the darkness.

And a few hours when nobody expected you to hurry.

Sometimes understanding Korea isn’t about seeing more.

Sometimes it’s about becoming still long enough to notice it.
