Spooky in Love

  • Why Did Min-hwan Let Ji-hwan Die in Spooky in Love? The Truth Explained

Spoiler Warning: This article contains major spoilers for Episodes 11–12 and the ending of Spooky in Love.

One of the darkest mysteries in Spooky in Love is finally answered in the last two episodes.

What really happened to Kang Ji-hwan on the yacht 12 years ago?

For much of the drama, his death appears to have been a tragic accident.

    It wasn’t.

Ji-hwan fell into the water after the yacht collided with a rock. His brother Kang Min-hwan actually managed to grab his hand.

For a moment, Min-hwan could have saved him.

    Then he deliberately let go.

So why did Min-hwan allow his own brother to die?

The answer is not one sudden argument.

It comes from years of jealousy, resentment and Min-hwan’s belief that he was never truly loved by his family because he was adopted.

    Did Min-hwan Really Kill Ji-hwan?

    Yes.

    The finale removes the ambiguity.

Ji-hwan initially falls from the yacht because of the collision.

    That part is an accident.

But his death does not have to happen.

    Min-hwan catches Ji-hwan’s hand.

Ji-hwan begs him not to let go.

    Min-hwan looks at his brother.

    And then he releases him.

    That distinction is important.

Min-hwan did not cause Ji-hwan to fall into the water intentionally, but he deliberately chose not to save him when he had the chance.

The recovered yacht footage ultimately proves what happened.

What Happened on the Yacht 12 Years Ago?

Yeo-ri, Ji-hwan and Min-hwan were together on the yacht.

Tension was already growing between the brothers.

    Ji-hwan discovered a photograph of Yeo-ri in Min-hwan’s wallet.

    That leads to a confrontation.

Their argument is not really just about a photograph.

It brings years of resentment between the brothers to the surface.

Then the yacht strikes a rock.

Ji-hwan loses his balance and falls.

    Min-hwan grabs his hand.

For a few seconds, Ji-hwan’s life literally depends on his brother.

    And Min-hwan lets go.

Why Did Min-hwan Let Go of Ji-hwan’s Hand?

    The simplest answer is:

Min-hwan had spent years believing Ji-hwan had taken the love and place in the family that should have belonged to him.

    Min-hwan was adopted.

Ji-hwan was the family’s biological son.

Instead of seeing himself as equally loved, Min-hwan gradually became convinced that his parents valued Ji-hwan more.

    Every disagreement became evidence.

Every moment of affection toward Ji-hwan became another reason for resentment.

Eventually, Min-hwan stopped seeing Ji-hwan simply as his younger brother.

He began seeing him as the person who represented everything Min-hwan believed he had been denied.

Min-hwan’s Adoption Is the Key to His Resentment

This is one of the most important details in understanding Min-hwan.

Being adopted itself did not make him violent.

The problem was how Min-hwan interpreted his position inside the family.

He developed a powerful sense of insecurity.

    He believed:

    Ji-hwan is their real son.

    I am the outsider.

If something goes wrong, they will choose him over me.

Those beliefs eventually harden into resentment.

In Episode 11, the brothers’ argument directly touches this wound.

Ji-hwan challenges Min-hwan’s perception of how the family treats him and questions whether Min-hwan is trapped in a victim mentality.

That confrontation occurs immediately before the fatal accident.

So when Ji-hwan is suddenly hanging over the water, Min-hwan is not making a decision in an emotional vacuum.

Years of resentment are already there.

Was Ji-hwan Actually Favored by Their Parents?

This is where Min-hwan’s tragedy becomes more complicated.

Min-hwan believes he was treated unfairly because he was adopted.

But the finale does not simply confirm that belief as objective truth.

Instead, it shows how deeply Min-hwan has interpreted his life through that belief.

By the time he is exposed, Min-hwan uses his childhood resentment to explain what he did.

But Yeo-ri refuses to accept that explanation as justification.

And the drama eventually gives us an even more important answer through Min-hwan’s mother.

Even after everything he has done, she still visits him in prison.

She tells him that she will wait for him after he serves his sentence.

That moment forces Min-hwan to confront something devastating:

perhaps he was loved more than he allowed himself to believe.

Yeo-ri Was Another Source of Jealousy

The conflict was not only about family.

Yeo-ri was also caught between the brothers.

    Ji-hwan had feelings for her.

Min-hwan also had feelings connected to Yeo-ri.

The photograph in Min-hwan’s wallet becomes the immediate trigger for their confrontation on the yacht.

So from Min-hwan’s perspective, Ji-hwan appears to possess everything.

The biological connection to the family.

    His parents’ affection.

    And Yeo-ri’s emotional connection.

Whether that perception is fair is almost beside the point.

    Min-hwan believes it.

And his belief has been building for years.

    Why Didn’t Min-hwan Just Save Ji-hwan?

This may be the most disturbing part of the scene.

Min-hwan does not arrive on the yacht planning to murder his brother.

There is no elaborate murder plan.

    Instead, the opportunity appears suddenly.

    Ji-hwan falls.

    Min-hwan catches him.

And for a few seconds, Min-hwan has complete power over the brother he has resented for years.

    He can pull him back.

    Or he can let go.

That is what makes the scene darker than a premeditated attack in some ways.

The resentment was already inside Min-hwan.

The accident simply gave him an opportunity to act on it.

Did Min-hwan Regret Letting Ji-hwan Die?

His behavior afterward suggests that Ji-hwan’s death never truly leaves him.

But guilt does not make Min-hwan confess.

Instead, he hides the truth for 12 years.

    That decision matters.

If Min-hwan’s action on the yacht had been only one terrible impulsive mistake, he still had countless opportunities afterward to tell the truth.

    He doesn’t.

    He protects himself.

And eventually, maintaining that secret leads to even more crimes.

    Why Did Min-hwan Kill Seung-jae?

Park Seung-jae becomes dangerous because of what he knows.

    The yacht incident was recorded.

That means Min-hwan’s secret could be exposed.

Once Seung-jae becomes connected to the evidence, Min-hwan’s original crime begins producing new crimes.

This is a classic pattern in Spooky in Love.

The original wrongdoing does not disappear simply because nobody talks about it.

    Instead, the lie becomes larger.

Ji-hwan’s death has to be hidden.

    Evidence has to disappear.

People who know too much become threats.

Eventually, Min-hwan is no longer simply protecting himself from something he did as a young man.

He becomes the person willing to destroy others to keep that secret buried.

Why Was the Camcorder Footage So Important?

Because memory alone was not enough.

Yeo-ri gradually recovers the truth about the yacht incident, but Min-hwan can deny her version of events.

    The recording changes everything.

It shows that Ji-hwan was alive after falling.

    It shows Min-hwan holding him.

And it shows the moment Min-hwan lets him go.

The footage transforms a 12-year-old suspicion into evidence.

That is why Min-hwan’s downfall finally becomes unavoidable.

Why Does Yeo-ri Expose Min-hwan at Ji-hwan’s Memorial?

The location makes the confrontation especially powerful.

Min-hwan believes he is about to secure his position as the new chairman of CL Group.

His public future appears to be opening in front of him.

Then Yeo-ri arrives with the past.

She plays the recovered footage in front of the people gathered there.

The man who built his future by hiding Ji-hwan’s death is exposed at an event honoring Ji-hwan.

    The symmetry is deliberate.

Min-hwan cannot move into his new life because the brother he abandoned 12 years earlier finally catches up with him.

    Why Doesn’t Yeo-ri Accept Min-hwan’s Explanation?

Because understanding why someone commits a terrible act is not the same as excusing it.

    Min-hwan talks about his childhood.

    He talks about being adopted.

He talks about feeling discriminated against.

He believes Ji-hwan received the love that he himself deserved.

Those feelings may explain how his resentment developed.

But Yeo-ri draws a clear moral boundary.

None of those things justified allowing Ji-hwan to die.

And they certainly do not justify the crimes Min-hwan commits afterward.

The Saddest Part of Min-hwan’s Story

The saddest possibility is that Min-hwan built much of his hatred around a belief that was never completely true.

He believed he was the unwanted child.

He believed Ji-hwan was the loved child.

So he spent years measuring himself against his brother.

But after Min-hwan is imprisoned, his mother still comes to see him.

She does not pretend his crimes were acceptable.

She does not rescue him from punishment.

But she tells him that she will wait for him.

For the first time, Min-hwan is forced to confront the possibility that his mother’s love was never something Ji-hwan stole from him.

Why Ji-hwan’s Death Is Connected to the Entire Story

Ji-hwan’s death is not merely a murder mystery added to the romance.

It connects almost every major supernatural element of Spooky in Love.

    Ji-hwan’s death affects Yeo-ri.

His spirit remains connected to her.

His heart ultimately becomes connected to Gang-uk.

The necklace links the past to the present.

And the truth about the yacht eventually destroys Min-hwan.

A single moment — Min-hwan releasing his brother’s hand — changes the lives of almost every major character for the next 12 years.

Did Ji-hwan Know Min-hwan Was Going to Let Him Die?

The scene is particularly painful because Ji-hwan initially trusts his brother to save him.

    He calls for Min-hwan.

He asks him not to let go.

There is no indication that Ji-hwan expects his brother to deliberately abandon him until the moment it happens.

That makes his death not only a killing but a betrayal.

The person physically capable of saving him is his own brother.

And that brother chooses not to.

What Happens to Min-hwan in the End?

    Min-hwan’s crimes are finally exposed.

The recovered yacht footage reveals his role in Ji-hwan’s death.

Additional evidence connects him to Seung-jae’s murder.

    Police arrest him.

The drama then jumps forward one year.

    Min-hwan is in prison.

    His mother visits him there.

And this final conversation gives his storyline something more complicated than simple punishment.

He finally begins acknowledging his guilt.

More importantly, he begins to understand that the mother he believed never truly chose him has not abandoned him even now.

    Does Min-hwan Redeem Himself?

    Not completely.

The finale does not erase what he did.

    Ji-hwan is dead.

    Seung-jae is dead.

Yeo-ri and Gang-uk were placed in danger.

Min-hwan must face legal punishment for those actions.

But his final prison scene suggests the beginning of something different.

For years, Min-hwan used resentment to explain his life.

Now he is finally forced to take responsibility for his choices.

    That is not redemption yet.

But it may be the first step toward it.

What Does Ji-hwan’s Death Really Mean?

The yacht scene is ultimately about a choice.

Min-hwan spends years believing other people made choices that hurt him.

    His parents chose Ji-hwan.

    Yeo-ri chose Ji-hwan.

The family chose the biological son.

At least, that is how Min-hwan sees the world.

Then on the yacht, Min-hwan finally becomes the person with the power to choose.

And he makes the worst choice possible.

    He lets go.

That is why blaming his childhood can never completely explain away what happened.

Whatever resentment brought him to that moment, Min-hwan was still the person who opened his hand.

    FAQ

Did Min-hwan kill Ji-hwan in Spooky in Love?

Yes. Ji-hwan initially falls from the yacht after it hits a rock, but Min-hwan catches his hand and then deliberately lets go instead of saving him.

Why did Min-hwan let Ji-hwan die?

Min-hwan had developed years of resentment toward Ji-hwan. As an adopted child, he believed their parents favored their biological son, and his jealousy involving Yeo-ri intensified that resentment.

Was Ji-hwan’s death originally an accident?

The fall was accidental, but the death was preventable. Min-hwan had the opportunity to save Ji-hwan and consciously released his hand.

    Was Min-hwan adopted?

Yes. Min-hwan’s adoption and his belief that Ji-hwan was favored as the biological child are central to understanding his resentment.

Did Min-hwan’s parents really love Ji-hwan more?

The drama presents this primarily through Min-hwan’s perception rather than confirming that his parents did not love him. His mother’s prison visit strongly suggests that Min-hwan misunderstood or distorted at least part of their love for him.

What evidence proves Min-hwan killed Ji-hwan?

Recovered camcorder footage from the yacht shows Ji-hwan hanging over the water while Min-hwan holds his hand and then lets go.

What happens to Min-hwan at the end?

His crimes are exposed and he is arrested. One year later, he remains in prison, where his mother visits him and Min-hwan begins acknowledging his guilt.

    Final Thoughts

Min-hwan did not let Ji-hwan die because of one argument on a yacht.

The argument only opened a wound that had existed for years.

Min-hwan had convinced himself that being adopted made him less loved.

He believed Ji-hwan possessed the family, affection and life that should have belonged to him.

Then, for one terrible moment, Ji-hwan’s life was literally in Min-hwan’s hand.

    He could have saved him.

    He chose not to.

And every crime that followed grew from the decision to hide that moment.

But Spooky in Love gives Min-hwan one final cruel realization.

The family love he believed Ji-hwan had stolen may never have been stolen at all.

Even after his crimes are exposed, his mother comes to see him.

She does not erase his punishment.

She simply refuses to abandon her son.

Min-hwan spent his life believing he was unloved.

By the time he finally understands that he may have been wrong, the brother he envied has been dead for 12 years.

And that may be the real tragedy behind Ji-hwan’s death.

  • Do Yeo-ri and Gang-uk End Up Together in Spooky in Love? The Ending Explained

Warning: Major spoilers for Spooky in Love Episodes 11–12.

After ghosts, a mysterious yacht death, a heart transplant, family secrets and one very complicated romance, Spooky in Love finally gives Cheon Yeo-ri and Ma Gang-uk an answer.

So do Yeo-ri and Gang-uk end up together?

Yes. Yeo-ri survives the truck accident, Ji-hwan finally crosses into the afterlife, Yeo-ri loses her ability to see ghosts, and she and Gang-uk are together at the end of the drama.

But their happy ending means more than simply getting the couple back together.

For most of the series, Yeo-ri believes loving someone puts that person in danger.

By the finale, she finally learns that she does not have to spend the rest of her life alone.

Here is everything that happens in the ending of Spooky in Love — and what it means for Yeo-ri, Gang-uk, Ji-hwan and Min-hwan.

Do Yeo-ri and Gang-uk End Up Together?

    Yes.

Yeo-ri and Gang-uk survive everything that separates them and ultimately remain together.

Their relationship has been difficult from the beginning because Yeo-ri’s supernatural condition makes ordinary intimacy almost impossible.

    She can see ghosts.

Physical contact can temporarily allow another person to see them too.

She wears gloves to avoid touching people.

And after years of frightening experiences, she has learned that getting close to someone can lead to pain.

    Gang-uk changes that.

He does not simply hear about Yeo-ri’s strange world.

    He experiences it.

And instead of permanently running away, he continues choosing her.

The finale finally removes the supernatural barrier between them.

Why Did Yeo-ri Break Up With Gang-uk?

Yeo-ri does not leave Gang-uk because she stops loving him.

She leaves because she is afraid he will die.

Gang-uk previously underwent a heart transplant, making Yeo-ri even more frightened about his safety.

She has already spent 12 years carrying guilt over Ji-hwan’s death.

Ji-hwan died after the yacht tragedy that changed her life, while Yeo-ri survived.

She cannot bear the thought of history repeating itself.

So when she believes Gang-uk may be in danger because of his relationship with her, she tries to push him away.

From Yeo-ri’s perspective, separation is an act of love.

If being with her could kill Gang-uk, then losing him seems better than watching him die.

The problem is that Yeo-ri is still allowing the tragedy of her past to control her future.

Does Gang-uk Really Have Ji-hwan’s Heart?

    Yes.

One of the finale’s most important revelations confirms that Ji-hwan was Gang-uk’s heart donor.

Gang-uk received the transplant 12 years earlier — the same period in which Ji-hwan died.

In Episode 12, Gang-uk directly asks his grandmother about the identity of his donor.

    She confirms the truth.

    Ji-hwan’s death saved Gang-uk’s life.

This revelation connects the three central characters in a way none of them originally understood.

    Ji-hwan belongs to Yeo-ri’s past.

Gang-uk becomes part of her future.

And Ji-hwan’s heart has been beating inside Gang-uk between those two worlds.

Does Gang-uk Love Yeo-ri Because He Has Ji-hwan’s Heart?

    No.

The drama does not suggest that Gang-uk’s love is simply Ji-hwan’s love continuing through a transplanted organ.

    Gang-uk is his own person.

His relationship with Yeo-ri develops through their experiences together.

He learns about her supernatural ability.

    He experiences the ghosts himself.

He sees how isolated she has become.

And he repeatedly chooses to remain beside her.

The transplant is therefore better understood as a symbolic connection rather than an explanation for Gang-uk’s feelings.

Ji-hwan gives Gang-uk life, not identity.

That distinction is essential to the ending.

    Gang-uk is not replacing Ji-hwan.

He is building a new relationship with Yeo-ri.

    Who Really Killed Ji-hwan?

The finale also resolves the mystery that has been hidden for 12 years.

Min-hwan is responsible for Ji-hwan’s death.

But he did not simply push Ji-hwan from the yacht.

During the incident, Ji-hwan fell overboard.

    Min-hwan grabbed his hand.

At that moment, Ji-hwan could still potentially have been saved.

    Instead, Min-hwan deliberately let go.

Ji-hwan fell into the water and died.

For years, the death was understood as a tragic accident.

The truth is that the accident caused Ji-hwan to fall — but Min-hwan chose not to save him.

Why Did Min-hwan Let Ji-hwan Die?

Min-hwan’s resentment toward Ji-hwan had been building for years.

He believed Ji-hwan was favored within the family.

As the adopted son, Min-hwan felt that his biological brother received the affection, recognition and place within the family that he himself wanted.

Yeo-ri added another source of jealousy.

Both brothers had feelings connected to her, deepening Min-hwan’s resentment.

Then the yacht accident placed Ji-hwan’s life literally in Min-hwan’s hands.

Min-hwan made the worst possible choice.

    He let go.

That moment becomes the original secret behind nearly everything that follows.

    How Is Min-hwan Exposed?

The truth survives because of old footage from the yacht.

Park Seung-jae discovers the recording and realizes what it shows.

    That makes the footage dangerous.

It can destroy the story Min-hwan has maintained for 12 years.

Seung-jae attempts to use the secret against him.

Min-hwan responds by committing another crime.

Eventually, however, the truth can no longer be buried.

The footage showing what happened to Ji-hwan is revealed publicly.

Min-hwan’s carefully protected version of the past collapses.

What Happens to Min-hwan at the End?

Min-hwan is arrested and held responsible for his crimes.

His downfall is important because it finally separates Ji-hwan’s death from the false story that surrounded it.

For 12 years, Ji-hwan was remembered as someone who died in an accident.

    Now the truth is known.

But Min-hwan’s final story is not simply about punishment.

His relationship with his mother adds one last emotional complication.

Min-hwan has spent much of his life believing he was less loved because he was adopted.

Even after everything he has done, however, his mother does not erase him as her son.

She does not excuse his crimes.

But she continues to acknowledge their relationship.

    That creates a tragic irony.

Much of Min-hwan’s resentment grew from believing he was not truly loved.

Yet the love he believed was missing may have been there all along.

Why Does Min-hwan Try to Kill Gang-uk?

Gang-uk becomes dangerous to Min-hwan because he continues investigating the truth.

As the case closes in around him, Min-hwan becomes increasingly desperate.

Gang-uk is no longer simply Yeo-ri’s romantic partner.

He is a prosecutor capable of exposing the crimes Min-hwan has spent years hiding.

Eventually, a truck is sent toward Gang-uk.

    Yeo-ri sees the danger.

And she makes a split-second decision.

She pushes Gang-uk out of the way.

Does Yeo-ri Die in the Truck Accident?

    No. Yeo-ri survives.

    But she is seriously injured.

The truck hits Yeo-ri instead of Gang-uk, leaving her unconscious.

For a moment, the drama appears to recreate the tragedy from 12 years earlier.

Back then, Ji-hwan died while Yeo-ri survived.

Now Yeo-ri risks dying after saving Gang-uk.

But the parallel does not end the same way.

While Yeo-ri lies unconscious, the drama moves into its final supernatural sequence.

She reaches a place between life and death.

    And there, the ghosts return.

Why Do All the Ghosts Appear to Yeo-ri?

Throughout the series, Yeo-ri experiences her ability to see ghosts largely as a burden.

    It isolates her.

    It makes ordinary relationships difficult.

It forces her to encounter the unresolved pain of the dead.

But Yeo-ri has also spent years helping those spirits.

    That matters in the finale.

When Yeo-ri herself approaches death, the ghosts she helped appear around her.

The ability that made her life so difficult also allowed her to form connections she never fully appreciated.

She helped the dead when they were unable to move on.

Now, at the moment when Yeo-ri needs help, those relationships return to her.

What Happens Between Yeo-ri and Ji-hwan at the End?

This is the emotional center of the finale.

Yeo-ri meets Ji-hwan at the boundary between life and death.

For 12 years, she has carried guilt over his death.

    She survived.

    He did not.

And her supernatural life has kept that tragedy present every day since.

But Ji-hwan does not want Yeo-ri to die.

He does not ask her to stay with him.

He does not try to separate her from Gang-uk.

Instead, he tells her to return.

Ji-hwan finally gives Yeo-ri permission to do what she has struggled to do for 12 years:

    live without him.

Why Does Ji-hwan Get on the Boat?

Because it is finally time for Ji-hwan to cross over.

His spirit has remained connected to Yeo-ri since his death.

His death contained an unresolved crime.

    Yeo-ri carried unresolved guilt.

And their fates remained unnaturally intertwined.

By the finale, those unfinished connections are finally being resolved.

The truth about his death has been revealed.

Yeo-ri understands that she does not need to die because he died.

And Gang-uk — whose life was saved by Ji-hwan’s donated heart — is waiting for her among the living.

So Ji-hwan gets on the boat.

    Yeo-ri does not.

    Ji-hwan goes with the dead.

    Yeo-ri returns to the living.

Why Does Yeo-ri Stop Seeing Ghosts?

When Yeo-ri wakes up, something fundamental has changed.

She can no longer see ghosts.

Her supernatural ability was connected to the strange imbalance created around Ji-hwan’s death and Yeo-ri’s survival 12 years earlier.

As long as that connection remained unresolved, Yeo-ri continued existing partly between the worlds of the living and the dead.

    Ji-hwan’s final departure ends it.

    The connection closes.

Yeo-ri wakes fully in the world of the living.

And for the first time in 12 years, the ghosts are gone.

Does Yeo-ri Still Need Her Gloves?

    No.

And this seemingly small detail carries enormous emotional weight.

For most of the drama, Yeo-ri’s gloves represent distance.

Touching another person can have supernatural consequences.

So she protects herself — and everyone else — by maintaining a physical barrier.

After Ji-hwan crosses over and Yeo-ri loses her ability to see ghosts, that barrier is no longer necessary.

She can touch another person normally.

    She can hold Gang-uk’s hand.

For most couples, that would be an ordinary gesture.

    For Yeo-ri, it represents freedom.

    What Happens One Year Later?

The epilogue shows that life has continued after the supernatural and criminal mysteries are resolved.

    Yeo-ri is alive.

    Gang-uk is alive.

Min-hwan faces the consequences of his actions.

    Ji-hwan has finally moved on.

Most importantly, Yeo-ri is no longer trapped in the life she had been living since the yacht tragedy.

She and Gang-uk can finally have a relationship without ghosts standing between them.

The drama does not need an extravagant fairy-tale ending.

    Something much simpler matters more.

They can finally be together as two ordinary living people.

Do Yeo-ri and Gang-uk Get Married?

The ending confirms that Yeo-ri and Gang-uk are together, but the emotional resolution is more important than whether the drama gives viewers a conventional wedding scene.

Their central obstacle was never simply whether they could date.

It was whether Yeo-ri could allow herself to build a future after spending 12 years emotionally tied to Ji-hwan’s death.

    By the end, she can.

    Ji-hwan has crossed over.

    Her ghost-seeing ability is gone.

The danger surrounding Min-hwan has been resolved.

And Yeo-ri no longer needs to push Gang-uk away to protect him.

Whether or not viewers define their final status through marriage, the drama clearly presents them as the couple moving forward together.

Is Spooky in Love a Happy Ending?

Yes — but it is a bittersweet happy ending.

Yeo-ri and Gang-uk get to remain together.

    Yeo-ri survives.

    Her curse ends.

    Min-hwan is exposed.

The truth about Ji-hwan’s death is finally known.

    And Ji-hwan finds peace.

But none of those things erase what happened.

    Ji-hwan is still dead.

Yeo-ri still lost 12 years of ordinary life.

Gang-uk’s survival is still connected to another family’s loss.

Min-hwan’s crimes permanently damaged his family.

The ending is happy not because the tragedy disappears.

It is happy because the characters who survive are finally able to stop living inside it.

What Does the Spooky in Love Ending Really Mean?

The finale is ultimately about letting go without forgetting.

Ji-hwan has to let go of Yeo-ri.

Yeo-ri has to let go of her guilt.

Gang-uk has to understand the life he received through Ji-hwan’s donated heart.

And the truth about the yacht accident has to be released after 12 years of secrecy.

Even Min-hwan’s ending is connected to the consequences of refusing to let go.

He allowed jealousy, resentment and his belief that he was unloved to define his life.

    Yeo-ri takes the opposite path.

    She finally chooses the future.

That is why her final relationship with Gang-uk matters.

He is not a replacement for Ji-hwan.

He represents something Yeo-ri has not allowed herself to have for 12 years:

a life that is not controlled by the dead.

So Do Yeo-ri and Gang-uk End Up Together?

    Yes.

    Yeo-ri survives the truck accident.

Ji-hwan sends her back to the living and finally crosses into the afterlife.

Yeo-ri’s ability to see ghosts disappears.

    Min-hwan’s crimes are exposed.

And Yeo-ri and Gang-uk remain together.

But the most important part of their happy ending is not simply that they become a couple.

For the first time in 12 years, Yeo-ri can reach for another person’s hand without fear.

    No gloves.

    No ghosts.

    No curse.

    Just Gang-uk.

And a future she is finally willing to live.

  • Why Did Yeo-ri Stop Seeing Ghosts in Spooky in Love? Her Curse Explained

Warning: Major spoilers for Spooky in Love Episodes 1–12.

For most of Netflix’s Spooky in Love, Cheon Yeo-ri lives with a supernatural ability that has completely changed her life.

    She can see ghosts.

    She avoids physical contact.

    She wears gloves.

And when someone holds her hand, that person can temporarily see ghosts too.

For 12 years, Yeo-ri has accepted this as part of her existence.

Then something surprising happens in the finale.

Yeo-ri wakes from her coma — and she can no longer see ghosts.

So why did her ability suddenly disappear?

    And perhaps more importantly:

Why could Yeo-ri see ghosts in the first place?

The finale finally connects everything to the yacht tragedy, Ji-hwan’s pendant and Yeo-ri’s refusal to let Ji-hwan cross into the afterlife.

    The simplest answer is:

Yeo-ri could see ghosts because her fate became unnaturally connected to Ji-hwan’s death 12 years earlier. When Ji-hwan finally crosses over in the finale, that connection is broken — and Yeo-ri’s ability disappears with him.

Here is how the entire supernatural mystery works.

Why Can Yeo-ri See Ghosts in Spooky in Love?

Yeo-ri was not simply born with the ability to see ghosts.

Her supernatural life begins with the tragedy that happened 12 years before the main story.

That was the night Kang Ji-hwan died.

Before the yacht tragedy, Ji-hwan gave Yeo-ri a special pendant.

At the time, it seemed like an emotional gift.

But the pendant was much more important than either of them understood.

Later in the drama, Yeo-ri and Gang-uk investigate the pendant and discover that it has supernatural significance.

Its power became connected to what happened between Yeo-ri and Ji-hwan.

    Their fates were changed.

    Ji-hwan died.

    Yeo-ri survived.

And afterward, Yeo-ri became connected to the world of the dead.

    What Did Ji-hwan’s Pendant Do?

The pendant is one of the keys to understanding Yeo-ri’s curse.

Ji-hwan gave it to her shortly before his death.

The drama eventually reveals that the pendant carried a supernatural power capable of affecting fate.

What happened on the yacht therefore was not simply:

    Ji-hwan died and Yeo-ri survived.

    Something deeper occurred.

    Their destinies became intertwined.

The pendant helped create a situation in which the fate surrounding Ji-hwan’s death and Yeo-ri’s survival was altered.

That is why the necklace repeatedly returns throughout the series.

It is not just a romantic memory of Ji-hwan.

It is one of the physical links connecting:

    Ji-hwan’s death,
    Yeo-ri’s survival,
and Yeo-ri’s ability to see ghosts.

Did Ji-hwan and Yeo-ri Swap Fates?

    In supernatural terms, yes.

The explanation surrounding the pendant indicates that their intended fates were altered.

Ji-hwan had given the pendant to Yeo-ri before he died.

The result was that Ji-hwan died while Yeo-ri survived.

But that exchange did not happen without consequences.

Yeo-ri remained alive while becoming unnaturally connected to death.

That helps explain why her supernatural ability is portrayed less like a gift and more like a burden.

    She survived.

But she never returned completely to an ordinary life.

For the next 12 years, the dead remained visible to her.

Why Did Yeo-ri Keep Seeing Ghosts for 12 Years?

The pendant alone is not the whole explanation.

    Ji-hwan himself is also crucial.

After Ji-hwan died, his spirit was supposed to leave the world of the living.

But Yeo-ri could not let him go.

She was overwhelmed by grief and guilt.

She believed Ji-hwan had died because of her.

That emotional refusal to release him helped keep the connection between the living and the dead open.

    Ji-hwan remained.

And Yeo-ri became someone capable of seeing spirits.

This is why the finale connects Yeo-ri’s supernatural ability directly to her unresolved relationship with Ji-hwan.

For 12 years, neither of them completely moved on.

Ji-hwan remained among the dead but close to Yeo-ri.

Yeo-ri remained alive but connected to the dead.

They were trapped on opposite sides of the same unfinished event.

Was Seeing Ghosts a Gift or a Curse?

For Yeo-ri, it was mostly a curse.

    Seeing ghosts sounds extraordinary.

    Living with them is different.

Yeo-ri cannot simply turn the ability off.

She sees spirits that other people cannot see.

She is approached by ghosts with unfinished problems.

And physical contact with another person can transfer the ability temporarily.

    That makes ordinary intimacy difficult.

A handshake is not just a handshake.

Holding someone’s hand can pull them into Yeo-ri’s supernatural world.

As a result, she becomes increasingly isolated.

The gloves she constantly wears become a symbol of that isolation.

They create a physical barrier between Yeo-ri and everyone around her.

    Why Does Yeo-ri Wear Gloves?

Because touching people can have supernatural consequences.

When someone holds Yeo-ri’s hand, that person can temporarily gain the ability to see ghosts.

    Gang-uk experiences this directly.

After physical contact with Yeo-ri, he suddenly sees the same spirits she has been living with for years.

Unlike Yeo-ri, however, Gang-uk’s ability is temporary.

    His ghost vision eventually disappears.

    Yeo-ri’s does not.

    That difference is important.

    Gang-uk temporarily enters Yeo-ri’s world.

    Yeo-ri is trapped inside it.

This is one reason the romance between them matters.

Gang-uk becomes one of the few people who actually experiences what Yeo-ri has been dealing with rather than simply being told about it.

Why Are Yeo-ri’s Hands So Cold?

Yeo-ri’s cold hands are another physical sign of her abnormal connection to the spirit world.

She is alive, but something about her remains connected to death.

That is why her condition affects more than what she can see.

Her body itself reflects the strange boundary she has occupied for 12 years.

The coldness also reinforces one of the drama’s recurring ideas:

Yeo-ri has spent years unable to experience ordinary human warmth.

    Literally and emotionally.

Her supernatural condition keeps other people at a distance.

Can Yeo-ri Get Rid of the Curse?

Eventually, Yeo-ri learns that escaping her supernatural fate will require more than simply destroying the pendant or refusing to communicate with ghosts.

The problem began with an imbalance between life and death.

    A fate was changed.

Someone who should have crossed over remained.

And Yeo-ri continued living while connected to that unfinished passage.

The supernatural balance therefore has to be restored.

That warning becomes especially important as the finale approaches.

Because Yeo-ri is about to find herself standing at the boundary between life and death herself.

Why Does Yeo-ri Nearly Die in Episode 12?

Min-hwan’s crimes eventually put Gang-uk in danger.

    A truck comes toward Gang-uk.

Yeo-ri sees what is happening and pushes him out of the way.

    She saves him.

But she is struck by the truck instead.

The accident leaves Yeo-ri in a coma.

This is important for more than the romance.

For the first time since Ji-hwan’s death, Yeo-ri herself reaches the boundary between the living and the dead.

And that allows the supernatural imbalance that began 12 years earlier to finally be resolved.

What Happens to Yeo-ri in the Spirit World?

While unconscious, Yeo-ri enters a liminal space between life and death.

    There, something remarkable happens.

The ghosts she helped during the previous 12 years appear.

These are spirits whose unfinished problems Yeo-ri helped resolve.

For years, seeing ghosts had seemed like nothing but a punishment.

But now the story reveals another side of her ability.

Yeo-ri used her curse to help people.

    And those acts matter.

The spirits gather around her and help keep her from crossing over.

The burden she carried for 12 years has also created relationships.

Yeo-ri gave warmth to the dead.

Now the dead return that warmth when she needs it most.

Why Does Ji-hwan Appear at the River?

Eventually, Yeo-ri reaches the final boundary.

A boat is waiting to take a soul to the other side.

    And Ji-hwan appears.

This is the moment that resolves the supernatural story.

For 12 years, Yeo-ri has believed that Ji-hwan died because she lived.

She has carried guilt over surviving.

Ji-hwan finally tells her to stop.

Her life is not something she needs to apologize for.

She still has people waiting for her.

Most importantly, she has a future.

Gang-uk is part of that future.

Ji-hwan does not ask Yeo-ri to remain with him.

    He tells her to return.

Why Does Ji-hwan Get on the Boat Instead of Yeo-ri?

Because Ji-hwan is finally ready to go where he should have gone 12 years earlier.

His spirit has remained connected to Yeo-ri ever since his death.

That connection helped keep the supernatural imbalance alive.

But now several unfinished things have been resolved.

The truth about his death is coming to light.

Yeo-ri understands that she does not need to blame herself.

Gang-uk — who carries Ji-hwan’s donated heart — is there to continue living beside her.

And Ji-hwan no longer needs to remain.

So when the boat comes, Ji-hwan boards it instead of Yeo-ri.

    Yeo-ri returns to the living.

    Ji-hwan finally crosses over.

The connection that had remained open for 12 years is closed.

Why Does Yeo-ri Stop Seeing Ghosts?

    This is the key answer.

Yeo-ri stops seeing ghosts because Ji-hwan finally crosses into the afterlife, restoring the supernatural balance that had been disrupted 12 years earlier.

    Her ability was connected to:

the altered fate created around the pendant,

    Ji-hwan’s death,

    Yeo-ri’s survival,

and Ji-hwan remaining in the world of the living.

Once Ji-hwan leaves, the supernatural bond holding Yeo-ri between the two worlds disappears.

    She wakes from the coma.

    And the ghosts are gone.

For the first time in 12 years, Yeo-ri sees only the living.

    Did Ji-hwan Take Yeo-ri’s Place?

In a symbolic and supernatural sense, yes.

The drama presents Ji-hwan’s departure as the final restoration of the balance between them.

Twelve years earlier, their fates became tangled.

    Yeo-ri lived.

Ji-hwan died but did not completely leave.

In the finale, Yeo-ri again approaches death.

This time Ji-hwan finally completes his own journey instead.

But this should not be interpreted as Ji-hwan “dying for Yeo-ri twice.”

    He was already dead.

What changes is that his spirit finally accepts the passage he had been unable to complete.

Yeo-ri does not steal another life from him.

Ji-hwan chooses to let her continue hers.

Did the Ghosts Yeo-ri Help Save Her?

Yes, and this is one of the most important emotional details in the finale.

The ghosts Yeo-ri helped over the years gather around her while she is between life and death.

Their presence demonstrates that her 12 years of suffering were not meaningless.

Yeo-ri often experienced her supernatural ability as isolation.

But during that time, she also helped spirits who could not move on by themselves.

When Yeo-ri needs help, those connections return to her.

The curse that caused her pain also allowed her to give something to others.

And ultimately, that kindness helps guide her back toward life.

Why Is Ji-hwan’s Goodbye So Important?

Because Ji-hwan is not merely saying goodbye to Yeo-ri.

    He is releasing her.

Yeo-ri’s life has been shaped by guilt since his death.

She has struggled to touch people.

    She has lived among ghosts.

And she has believed, consciously or unconsciously, that her survival came at Ji-hwan’s expense.

His final act tells her the opposite.

    Live.

That changes the meaning of his ghost.

Ji-hwan initially appears to be the spirit preventing Yeo-ri from escaping her past.

In the end, he becomes the person who finally allows her to leave that past behind.

Why Can Gang-uk No Longer See Ghosts Either?

Gang-uk’s ability was always different from Yeo-ri’s.

He temporarily gained the ability through physical contact with her.

He was never permanently connected to the spirit world in the same way.

Earlier in the series, his temporary ghost vision already disappears after a limited period.

Once Yeo-ri’s own supernatural connection ends, there is no longer a power for her to transfer.

That means the strange barrier that existed between them is finally gone.

They can touch each other normally.

    No ghosts.

    No supernatural consequences.

    No gloves.

Why Are the Gloves Important in the Ending?

This may be the simplest visual symbol of Yeo-ri’s entire character arc.

For most of the drama, Yeo-ri wears gloves because touch is dangerous.

The gloves separate her from other people.

    They represent fear.

    Isolation.

And the supernatural burden she has carried since Ji-hwan’s death.

After her curse disappears, she no longer needs them.

That means something as ordinary as holding Gang-uk’s hand becomes emotionally important.

For almost anyone else, holding hands is nothing unusual.

For Yeo-ri, it represents a life she could not have for 12 years.

The absence of gloves tells us something before the characters even need to explain it:

Yeo-ri is finally back among the living.

Does Yeo-ri Lose Her Powers Forever?

The ending strongly presents the change as permanent.

    Ji-hwan has crossed over.

The supernatural imbalance has been resolved.

Yeo-ri can no longer see or sense ghosts as she did before.

There is no final scene suggesting that the power secretly remains or suddenly returns.

That matters because Spooky in Love does not end by turning Yeo-ri into a professional ghost hunter or giving her an even stronger supernatural ability.

    Her reward is much simpler.

    An ordinary life.

For someone who spent 12 years surrounded by the dead, ordinary becomes extraordinary.

What Does Yeo-ri Losing Her Ghost Powers Really Mean?

On the plot level, it means the curse is broken.

On the emotional level, it means Yeo-ri finally stops living inside the moment Ji-hwan died.

    For 12 years:

    Ji-hwan remained a ghost.

    Yeo-ri remained connected to ghosts.

    Min-hwan hid the truth.

    Yeo-ri carried guilt.

Gang-uk unknowingly lived with Ji-hwan’s heart.

Everyone was still connected to that single night on the yacht.

The finale finally separates those paths.

    Ji-hwan goes with the dead.

Yeo-ri returns fully to the living.

Gang-uk continues living with the heart Ji-hwan donated.

And the truth about Ji-hwan’s death is finally exposed.

    The past does not disappear.

But it no longer controls Yeo-ri’s life.

So Why Did Yeo-ri Stop Seeing Ghosts?

Because her ability was never simply a magical superpower.

It was the consequence of an unfinished relationship between life and death.

    Ji-hwan died.

    Yeo-ri survived.

Their fates became entangled through the pendant.

Yeo-ri could not let Ji-hwan go.

And for 12 years, she remained connected to the world he belonged to.

In the finale, that finally changes.

Yeo-ri reaches the boundary of death.

The ghosts she helped support her.

Ji-hwan tells her to return to life.

Then he boards the boat and finally crosses over.

    Yeo-ri wakes up.

    She looks around.

And for the first time in 12 years, there are no ghosts.

    The curse is gone.

But the deeper meaning is even simpler:

Ji-hwan finally lets go of Yeo-ri.

And Yeo-ri finally lets go of Ji-hwan.

  • Who Killed Ji-hwan in Spooky in Love? What Really Happened on the Yacht Explained

Warning: Major spoilers for Spooky in Love Episodes 1–12.

For most of Spooky in Love, the death of Kang Ji-hwan is described as a tragic yacht accident.

Twelve years ago, Ji-hwan fell into the sea.

    Cheon Yeo-ri survived.

    Ji-hwan did not.

But as the drama progresses, too many details surrounding that night stop making sense.

Why does Kang Min-hwan become so uncomfortable whenever the accident is mentioned?

Why is the pendant Ji-hwan gave Yeo-ri so important?

Why does Park Seung-jae have information that could destroy Min-hwan?

And why has Ji-hwan’s ghost remained connected to Yeo-ri for 12 years?

The final episodes reveal the truth.

Ji-hwan’s fall into the sea was caused by the yacht accident — but Min-hwan had a chance to save him and deliberately let go of his hand.

    So was Ji-hwan murdered?

In practical terms, the drama makes Min-hwan responsible for his brother’s death.

He did not push Ji-hwan into the sea.

But when Ji-hwan was hanging on and begging for help, Min-hwan made a conscious decision not to save him.

Here is what really happened on the yacht — and why that single decision explains almost every major mystery in Spooky in Love.

Who Killed Ji-hwan in Spooky in Love?

Kang Min-hwan is responsible for Kang Ji-hwan’s death.

    But the exact sequence matters.

Min-hwan does not deliberately push Ji-hwan off the yacht.

The brothers are already fighting when the yacht hits a rock.

Ji-hwan loses his balance and falls into the water.

Min-hwan then grabs his brother’s hand.

At that moment, Ji-hwan can still potentially be saved.

But Min-hwan looks at him — and lets go.

Ji-hwan falls back into the sea and dies.

For 12 years, everyone believes his death was simply the result of the accident.

    The truth is much darker.

The accident put Ji-hwan in danger.

Min-hwan made the decision that killed him.

What Happened on the Yacht 12 Years Ago?

Yeo-ri, Ji-hwan, Min-hwan and Park Seung-jae were among the people connected to the yacht outing.

At this point in their lives, the emotional tension between the two brothers was already growing.

    Both had feelings for Yeo-ri.

Ji-hwan was close to her and eventually expressed those feelings.

Min-hwan had feelings for Yeo-ri too.

But the romantic rivalry was only one part of a much older conflict.

Min-hwan had spent years feeling that Ji-hwan received the love and recognition that should have belonged to him.

That resentment eventually exploded on the yacht.

    The brothers argued.

Then the yacht collided with a rock.

    Ji-hwan fell overboard.

Min-hwan reached for him and held his hand.

For a few seconds, the fate of Ji-hwan depended on his brother.

    Then Min-hwan released him.

Did Min-hwan Push Ji-hwan Off the Yacht?

    No.

    This is an important distinction.

Ji-hwan falls because the yacht collides with a rock and he loses his balance.

Min-hwan does not physically throw him overboard.

But that does not make Ji-hwan’s death a simple accident.

Once Ji-hwan is in the water, Min-hwan grabs him.

He has an opportunity to save his brother.

    Ji-hwan pleads with him.

Min-hwan then deliberately opens his hand and lets Ji-hwan fall.

That is the real crime hidden underneath the “yacht accident.”

The drama therefore creates a morally disturbing situation.

Min-hwan did not create the initial accident.

But once the accident happened, he chose death for his brother instead of rescue.

Why Did Min-hwan Let Ji-hwan Die?

Jealousy over Yeo-ri is part of the answer.

But it is not the whole answer.

Min-hwan’s resentment toward Ji-hwan goes much deeper.

For years, Min-hwan believed that he was treated differently inside the Kang family.

He felt that Ji-hwan was favored.

He believed his brother received affection, recognition and a secure place within the family that Min-hwan himself never truly had.

The fact that Min-hwan was adopted intensified those feelings.

Over time, Ji-hwan became a symbol of everything Min-hwan believed had been denied to him.

    Then there was Yeo-ri.

    Min-hwan loved her.

But Ji-hwan became the person close to her.

The yacht confrontation brings all of that resentment together.

    Family.

    Inheritance.

    Belonging.

    Jealousy.

    Yeo-ri.

    Years of feeling second-best.

When Ji-hwan falls overboard, Min-hwan suddenly finds himself in a position of absolute power.

He can save the brother he resents.

Or he can let him disappear.

    He chooses the second option.

Was Ji-hwan the Biological Son and Min-hwan the Adopted Son?

The family relationship is important because Min-hwan repeatedly interprets his childhood through the idea that he was less loved because he was adopted.

This becomes central to the way he explains his hatred of Ji-hwan.

But the drama does not present that resentment as justification for what he did.

    Feeling rejected is one thing.

Choosing not to save your brother is another.

This becomes especially important later when Min-hwan’s mother continues to care about him despite learning what he has done.

Her response undermines the story Min-hwan has spent years telling himself:

that he was never truly loved because he was not the biological child.

His tragedy is therefore not simply that he was unloved.

It is that he allowed his belief that he was unloved to justify increasingly terrible choices.

Why Couldn’t Yeo-ri Remember What Happened?

Yeo-ri’s memories of the yacht incident are incomplete for much of the series.

    She remembers Ji-hwan.

    She remembers the pendant.

    She remembers the water.

And she knows that Ji-hwan died while she survived.

But she does not initially possess the complete truth about what happened between the brothers.

    That missing memory is crucial.

Because without it, Yeo-ri carries the wrong kind of guilt.

She believes Ji-hwan’s death is tied primarily to saving her.

    She survives.

    He dies.

For the next 12 years, that imbalance shapes her life.

Only when the truth begins to surface can she understand that Ji-hwan’s death involved a choice made by someone else.

    Min-hwan.

What Was the Pendant Ji-hwan Gave Yeo-ri?

The pendant is one of the most important objects connecting the yacht accident to the supernatural story.

Before his death, Ji-hwan gives it to Yeo-ri.

The pendant is associated with protection and ultimately becomes connected to the strange fate that allows Yeo-ri to survive while remaining tied to the world of ghosts.

That is why the necklace keeps returning throughout the mystery.

It is not simply a romantic keepsake from Ji-hwan.

It is physical evidence of the last period of his life and a supernatural link between his death and Yeo-ri’s survival.

The pendant therefore connects two mysteries:

    What happened to Ji-hwan?

    and

Why did Yeo-ri begin seeing ghosts?

Who Saw What Happened to Ji-hwan?

This is where Park Seung-jae becomes important.

Seung-jae was connected to the yacht incident and later discovers old camcorder footage from that day.

The recording contains evidence of the confrontation surrounding Ji-hwan’s death.

That footage is extremely dangerous for Min-hwan.

For 12 years, Min-hwan has lived behind the official story of an accident.

If the recording becomes public, that story collapses.

Seung-jae realizes exactly how valuable the footage is.

And instead of immediately exposing the truth, he tries to use it against Min-hwan.

That decision leads directly to another murder.

Why Did Min-hwan Kill Park Seung-jae?

    Because Seung-jae discovered the truth.

After finding the old footage, Seung-jae realizes that Min-hwan’s secret can destroy him.

He uses that knowledge to blackmail Min-hwan.

    For Min-hwan, this is catastrophic.

Ji-hwan’s death is the original secret upon which much of his adult life has been built.

If Seung-jae exposes the footage, Min-hwan could lose everything.

    So Min-hwan makes another choice.

    He kills Seung-jae.

This is one of the most important parallels in the drama.

Twelve years earlier, Min-hwan allows Ji-hwan to die in order to remove the person at the center of his resentment.

Years later, he kills Seung-jae to protect the secret created by that first death.

One crime creates the need for another.

    Did Min-hwan Frame Yeo-ri for Seung-jae’s Murder?

    Yes.

After killing Seung-jae, Min-hwan tries to redirect suspicion toward Yeo-ri.

He uses Seung-jae’s phone to lure her to the scene.

Yeo-ri arrives and finds Seung-jae dead.

The situation is constructed to make her look suspicious.

This shows how far Min-hwan has changed since the night of the yacht accident.

The first time, his crime comes from a moment of resentment and choice.

Twelve years later, his behavior is much more calculated.

    He kills.

    He manipulates evidence.

    He frames Yeo-ri.

And when Gang-uk gets too close to the truth, Min-hwan becomes willing to eliminate him too.

Did Min-hwan Try to Kill Gang-uk?

    Yes.

As prosecutor Ma Gang-uk continues investigating the case and closing in on Min-hwan, he becomes another threat.

A truck is sent toward Gang-uk.

But Yeo-ri sees the danger and pushes him out of the way.

    She is hit instead.

The moment creates another important parallel with Ji-hwan.

Twelve years earlier, Ji-hwan dies while Yeo-ri survives.

Now Yeo-ri risks her own life to save Gang-uk.

Once again, love, survival and death become intertwined.

But this time, the outcome is different.

    Yeo-ri survives.

And the truth about Ji-hwan finally comes out.

How Is the Truth About Ji-hwan Finally Revealed?

The decisive evidence is the old recording from the yacht.

    Yeo-ri eventually obtains the footage.

And she chooses the most devastating possible moment to reveal it.

    Ji-hwan’s memorial.

Min-hwan believes he is finally about to secure his position and move forward with his ambitions.

    Instead, Yeo-ri appears.

    The footage is played publicly.

    Everyone sees what really happened.

Ji-hwan was hanging from the yacht.

    Min-hwan was holding him.

    And then Min-hwan let go.

After 12 years, the “accident” finally has a human decision attached to it.

Min-hwan can no longer control the story.

Why Reveal the Video at Ji-hwan’s Memorial?

Because the setting turns the exposure into more than a criminal reveal.

For years, Min-hwan has lived while Ji-hwan has been remembered as the victim of an accident.

Min-hwan has been able to participate in that public mourning while hiding what he actually did.

Exposing him at Ji-hwan’s memorial reverses that situation.

The dead brother finally gets his truth.

The living brother can no longer hide behind the family’s grief.

It also destroys Min-hwan at the exact moment he believes he is about to consolidate power.

The secret he buried to protect his future becomes the thing that destroys it.

What Happens to Min-hwan After the Truth Comes Out?

    Min-hwan is arrested.

And Ji-hwan’s death is not the only crime connected to him.

The investigation also exposes his responsibility for Seung-jae’s murder and the other actions he took while trying to protect himself.

By the one-year-later portion of the ending, Min-hwan is still in prison.

But the drama gives him one final scene that complicates his story.

    His mother visits him.

Min-hwan had spent much of his life believing he was less loved because he was adopted.

Yet after everything he has done, his mother still tells him she will be waiting for him when he eventually returns.

She does not erase his crimes.

She does not rescue him from punishment.

But she refuses to erase him as her son.

That is perhaps the cruelest answer to Min-hwan’s lifelong resentment.

The love he believed he never had may have existed all along.

He simply could not see it.

    Was Ji-hwan’s Death Really Murder?

The drama’s narrative answer is clear:

Min-hwan intentionally allowed Ji-hwan to die.

Whether a viewer wants to describe the exact act using a particular legal definition is a separate question.

But emotionally and narratively, Spooky in Love treats Min-hwan as responsible.

Ji-hwan did not simply disappear because of bad weather or an unavoidable accident.

He was within reach of rescue.

    His brother held his hand.

And his brother chose to let go.

That is the truth the entire yacht mystery has been hiding.

Why Did Ji-hwan Remain as a Ghost?

Once we understand his death, Ji-hwan’s lingering spirit also makes more sense.

    His story is unfinished.

The truth about his death is hidden.

    Yeo-ri continues blaming herself.

Min-hwan continues living behind a lie.

And Ji-hwan remains connected to both Yeo-ri and Gang-uk in extraordinary ways.

His heart is transplanted into Gang-uk.

His pendant becomes connected to Yeo-ri’s supernatural fate.

And his spirit remains near the woman who has spent 12 years unable to escape the consequences of that night.

Ji-hwan can finally leave only after those unfinished connections are resolved.

The Yacht Accident Explains Almost Everything in Spooky in Love

The yacht is not merely the location of an old tragedy.

It is the point from which almost the entire story grows.

    Ji-hwan falls into the sea.

Min-hwan lets go of his hand.

Yeo-ri survives and begins seeing ghosts.

Ji-hwan’s heart is donated to Gang-uk.

Min-hwan hides the truth for 12 years.

    Seung-jae discovers the recording.

Min-hwan kills him to protect the secret.

    Gang-uk investigates.

    Yeo-ri eventually exposes the truth.

What initially looks like several different mysteries is actually one chain of consequences beginning on the yacht.

    So Who Really Killed Ji-hwan?

The final answer is Kang Min-hwan.

Not because he pushed Ji-hwan into the sea.

    He did not.

The yacht accident caused Ji-hwan to fall.

    But Min-hwan caught him.

    Ji-hwan was still alive.

He begged his brother not to let go.

And Min-hwan made a conscious decision.

    He opened his hand.

That single moment becomes the original sin of Spooky in Love.

Everything Min-hwan does afterward — the lies, manipulation, Seung-jae’s murder and his attempts to stop Gang-uk — grows from his need to keep that moment buried.

Twelve years later, the recording finally brings the truth back to the surface.

Ji-hwan’s death was not simply a yacht accident.

    The accident made him fall.

His brother chose not to save him.

  • Whose Heart Did Gang-uk Receive in Spooky in Love? Ji-hwan’s Heart Transplant Explained

Warning: Major spoilers for Spooky in Love Episodes 1–12.

One of the biggest mysteries in Spooky in Love is hidden inside Ma Gang-uk himself.

We eventually learn that Gang-uk received a heart transplant 12 years ago.

That timing immediately raises a question.

Twelve years ago was also when Kang Ji-hwan died in the yacht incident that changed Cheon Yeo-ri’s life.

So whose heart did Gang-uk receive?

The finale gives us a direct answer:

    Gang-uk received Kang Ji-hwan’s heart.

Ji-hwan died, but his donated heart saved Gang-uk’s life.

That revelation is more than a dramatic coincidence. It connects the drama’s three central characters — Yeo-ri, Ji-hwan and Gang-uk — and helps explain several mysteries that had been building throughout the series.

Here is how the heart transplant connection works and what it means for the ending of Spooky in Love.

    Whose Heart Does Gang-uk Have?

Kang Ji-hwan is Gang-uk’s heart donor.

    Episode 12 confirms it directly.

Gang-uk asks his grandmother whether the person who donated the heart that saved him was someone named Ji-hwan.

    She admits the truth.

The donor was the son of the woman Gang-uk and his grandmother had previously met.

    That woman was Ji-hwan’s mother.

Gang-uk then realizes that the person his grandmother had quietly remembered and prayed for over the years was the young man whose death allowed him to live.

That young man was Kang Ji-hwan.

When Did Gang-uk Receive Ji-hwan’s Heart?

The transplant happened 12 years before the main story.

That is important because it matches the period of Ji-hwan’s death.

Ji-hwan died following the yacht incident connected to Yeo-ri and Min-hwan.

At roughly the same point in the past, Gang-uk desperately needed a donor heart.

The drama initially presents these as separate pieces of information.

But they gradually begin to fit together:

    Ji-hwan dies.

    Gang-uk receives a heart transplant.

    Ji-hwan’s family knows Gang-uk’s grandmother.

Gang-uk enters Yeo-ri’s life years later.

By the time the drama openly reveals the truth, many viewers had already started connecting those clues.

When Does Spooky in Love First Hint at Gang-uk’s Heart Transplant?

The heart mystery is planted well before the finale.

By the middle episodes, viewers learn that Gang-uk underwent a heart transplant 12 years earlier.

Min-hwan also begins investigating Gang-uk’s medical history and becomes interested in identifying the donor.

That is a major clue because the drama repeatedly emphasizes the same 12-year timeline surrounding Ji-hwan.

Once the transplant is revealed, the obvious question becomes:

Who died 12 years ago who could have given Gang-uk that heart?

There is one character whose death dominates Yeo-ri’s past.

    Ji-hwan.

Did Viewers Guess Ji-hwan Was the Heart Donor Before the Reveal?

    Yes — and quite early.

Once the transplant storyline appeared, viewers began theorizing that Ji-hwan must have been Gang-uk’s donor.

    There were several reasons.

    The timing matched.

Gang-uk’s grandmother appeared to have a mysterious connection to Ji-hwan’s family.

Gang-uk was becoming increasingly connected to Yeo-ri.

And perhaps most importantly, Ji-hwan’s ghost did not seem to treat Gang-uk the same way he treated other men around her.

Earlier in the drama, Ji-hwan’s supernatural presence appears to frighten away someone who might marry Yeo-ri.

That initially makes him look like a jealous ghost.

    But Gang-uk is different.

Ji-hwan does not simply try to remove him from Yeo-ri’s life.

At times, the ghost’s actions even appear to help bring Gang-uk toward her.

Once viewers learned about Gang-uk’s transplant, that difference suddenly had a possible explanation.

    Why Doesn’t Ji-hwan’s Ghost Attack Gang-uk?

This is where the heart connection becomes especially interesting.

If Ji-hwan were simply a jealous dead man who wanted Yeo-ri for himself, Gang-uk should be the person he hates most.

Gang-uk falls in love with Yeo-ri.

Yeo-ri falls in love with him.

They become increasingly serious about their relationship.

Yet Ji-hwan does not behave toward Gang-uk as though he were merely a romantic rival.

    Why?

    Because Gang-uk carries Ji-hwan’s heart.

The drama does not suggest that Gang-uk literally becomes Ji-hwan or that Ji-hwan controls him through the transplant.

    Gang-uk remains his own person.

But the transplant creates a supernatural and symbolic connection between the two men.

    Ji-hwan died.

    Gang-uk lived.

And the organ that made Gang-uk’s continued life possible came from Ji-hwan.

Does Gang-uk Love Yeo-ri Because He Has Ji-hwan’s Heart?

    No.

    This distinction is important.

The drama never needs us to believe that Gang-uk loves Yeo-ri simply because Ji-hwan’s heart is inside him.

Gang-uk develops his own relationship with her.

He gets to know Yeo-ri as an adult.

He sees her fear, loneliness, stubbornness and vulnerability.

He chooses to remain beside her even after experiencing the frightening consequences of her supernatural ability.

    Those are Gang-uk’s choices.

The heart transplant creates a connection between their histories.

It does not erase Gang-uk’s identity.

If the drama suggested that his love came entirely from Ji-hwan’s heart, it would actually weaken Yeo-ri and Gang-uk’s romance.

Instead, the transplant works better as a bridge between Yeo-ri’s past and her future.

    Ji-hwan Represents Yeo-ri’s Past

Ji-hwan belongs to the tragedy that shaped Yeo-ri’s life.

    He died while Yeo-ri survived.

    Afterward, she carried enormous guilt.

Her connection to the spirit world also became tied to what happened during that period.

For 12 years, Ji-hwan therefore represents something Yeo-ri cannot completely escape.

The past is literally still following her.

    She sees the dead.

    Ji-hwan remains nearby.

And the truth about what happened on the yacht remains unresolved.

    Then Gang-uk appears.

    Gang-uk Represents Yeo-ri’s Future

    Gang-uk is different.

He belongs to Yeo-ri’s present life.

He falls in love with the woman she has become rather than the girl she was before Ji-hwan died.

He also accepts the supernatural part of her life that has frightened other people away.

That makes the heart transplant symbolically powerful.

Ji-hwan’s heart exists inside the man with whom Yeo-ri may finally build a future.

But Gang-uk is not Ji-hwan’s replacement.

He is the person who receives a life made possible by Ji-hwan’s death and then uses that life to love Yeo-ri in his own way.

    The past does not return.

Instead, something from the past helps make the future possible.

Why Did Gang-uk’s Grandmother Hide the Donor’s Identity?

Gang-uk’s grandmother knew more about the transplant than she initially told him.

She remained aware of the donor family and continued remembering Ji-hwan after the operation.

This helps explain why her connection to Ji-hwan’s mother seemed mysterious earlier in the series.

For Gang-uk, the transplant was the reason he survived.

For Ji-hwan’s mother, however, the same event followed the death of her son.

Those are two completely different emotional realities connected by one heart.

    One family lost a child.

Another family got to keep theirs.

    Gang-uk’s grandmother never forgot that.

Her secrecy therefore becomes part of the drama’s larger theme of people carrying old debts, guilt and gratitude without speaking openly about them.

Why Was Gang-uk’s Grandmother So Afraid for Him?

The transplant also helps explain her intense fear surrounding Gang-uk’s safety.

    Gang-uk nearly died once already.

His life exists because another young man died and became an organ donor.

To his grandmother, that makes his survival feel precious and fragile.

Her fear becomes even stronger when supernatural warnings enter the story.

When she becomes convinced that Gang-uk’s relationship with Yeo-ri could put him in danger, she tries to separate them.

From her perspective, she is protecting the grandson whose life was saved once before.

But that fear creates one of the drama’s cruelest ironies.

The heart she is trying so desperately to protect originally belonged to Ji-hwan — the very person whose fate is deeply connected to Yeo-ri.

Why Does Yeo-ri Break Up With Gang-uk After Learning About His Heart?

Near the end of the drama, Yeo-ri learns that Gang-uk had a heart transplant.

Combined with the supernatural warnings surrounding him, this terrifies her.

Yeo-ri has spent years believing that people who become too close to her can be harmed.

She already carries guilt over Ji-hwan’s death.

The idea that Gang-uk — a man living with a transplanted heart — might die because of her is unbearable.

So she tries to end their relationship.

From Yeo-ri’s perspective, leaving Gang-uk becomes an act of protection.

She would rather lose him than risk becoming responsible for another death.

But she does not yet know the most important fact.

The heart she is trying to protect is Ji-hwan’s heart.

When Does Gang-uk Learn the Truth?

Gang-uk finally confirms the truth in Episode 12.

He asks his grandmother directly about his donor.

    Was his name Ji-hwan?

    She says yes.

Gang-uk then understands the connection between himself, Ji-hwan’s family and the events that have surrounded Yeo-ri.

After learning the truth, he goes to Ji-hwan’s memorial.

This is an important moment because the relationship between the two men finally becomes explicit.

They never truly knew each other.

Yet Gang-uk has lived for 12 years because Ji-hwan’s heart continued beating inside him.

What Does Gang-uk’s Visit to Ji-hwan Mean?

Gang-uk’s visit is essentially an acknowledgment of the life he received.

Until then, the transplant had been part of Gang-uk’s own medical history.

    Now it has a name.

    A family.

    A death.

And a connection to the woman he loves.

The heart inside Gang-uk is no longer an anonymous donor organ.

    It belonged to Ji-hwan.

That knowledge forces Gang-uk to confront an extraordinary fact:

The man whose death has haunted Yeo-ri is also the man whose death allowed Gang-uk to survive long enough to meet her.

That does not make their romance destiny in a simple fairy-tale sense.

But it makes their histories inseparable.

Does Ji-hwan’s Heart Explain the Ghost Connection?

    Partly.

The heart transplant is one part of a much larger supernatural structure connecting the three characters.

Ji-hwan’s lingering spirit is primarily connected to his unresolved death and Yeo-ri’s unusual connection to the spirit world.

But Gang-uk carrying Ji-hwan’s heart gives the drama a physical connection alongside the supernatural one.

Think of the three characters this way:

    Ji-hwan — the dead

Yeo-ri — the person caught between the living and the dead

Gang-uk — the living man carrying something from the dead

That triangle is at the center of Spooky in Love.

And the finale finally separates them.

    Ji-hwan can leave.

Yeo-ri can remain among the living.

Gang-uk can continue the life that Ji-hwan’s donated heart helped save.

Why the Heart Reveal Matters to the Ending

The heart reveal could easily have been nothing more than a dramatic K-drama coincidence.

Instead, it completes the story’s central idea about letting go.

Yeo-ri has spent 12 years unable to fully escape Ji-hwan’s death.

Gang-uk has spent those same 12 years living because of Ji-hwan.

One person carries the emotional consequence of Ji-hwan’s death.

The other carries its physical consequence.

When Yeo-ri nearly dies in the finale, Ji-hwan finally gets the opportunity to release her.

He does not ask her to remain with him.

He sends her back toward life.

    Toward Gang-uk.

Then Ji-hwan himself finally crosses over.

    The circle is complete.

    Is Gang-uk Basically Ji-hwan’s Replacement?

No — and that may be the most important interpretation of the transplant twist.

    Gang-uk is not Ji-hwan 2.0.

    He is not a reincarnation.

He does not inherit Ji-hwan’s personality.

And Yeo-ri does not love him because her dead friend’s heart somehow makes her do so.

    Gang-uk is Gang-uk.

What he receives from Ji-hwan is life, not identity.

That distinction gives the transplant reveal its emotional meaning.

Ji-hwan does not return to reclaim Yeo-ri.

His heart continues living in another person, while his spirit eventually accepts that Yeo-ri must continue living too.

    Both of them move forward.

    Just in different ways.

So Why Did Gang-uk Receive Ji-hwan’s Heart?

On the plot level, the answer is simple:

Ji-hwan became Gang-uk’s heart donor after his death 12 years earlier.

But on the story level, the meaning is much bigger.

    Ji-hwan’s death creates two survivors.

Yeo-ri survives the yacht tragedy but carries guilt and a connection to ghosts.

Gang-uk survives his own medical crisis because Ji-hwan’s donated heart saves him.

Twelve years later, those two survivors meet and fall in love.

And when Ji-hwan finally leaves the world of the living, he does not take either of them with him.

He allows them to remain together.

That is why the heart transplant is more than a twist.

Ji-hwan’s heart connects the tragedy that created Yeo-ri’s past to the man who becomes part of her future.

  • Who Is Ji-hwan’s Ghost in Spooky in Love? Why He Haunts Yeo-ri Explained

Warning: Major spoilers for Spooky in Love Episodes 1–12.

One ghost stands above all the others in Netflix’s Korean drama Spooky in Love.

    Kang Ji-hwan.

He died in a yacht accident 12 years before the main story, after jumping into the water to save Cheon Yeo-ri.

But his death did not end his connection to her.

For years, Yeo-ri continues to see ghosts. Strange water-related supernatural events follow her. Ji-hwan appears to interfere with important moments in her life, and the drama gradually suggests that his death is connected to far more than a tragic accident.

So why is Ji-hwan still haunting Yeo-ri?

    Is he jealous?

Is he trying to stop her from falling in love?

Or is he actually protecting her?

By the finale, the answer completely changes how we understand their relationship.

Ji-hwan is not simply haunting Yeo-ri. His unfinished death is the reason her supernatural life exists in the first place — and he ultimately stays long enough to help free her from it.

Who Is Kang Ji-hwan in Spooky in Love?

Kang Ji-hwan is Yeo-ri’s deceased college friend and the biological son of the Kang family.

His brother, Kang Min-hwan, was adopted.

Twelve years before the main events of Spooky in Love, Ji-hwan and Yeo-ri were involved in a yacht accident.

    Yeo-ri fell into the sea.

Ji-hwan went into the water to save her.

    Yeo-ri survived.

    Ji-hwan did not.

For much of the drama, that appears to be the simple explanation for his death.

But it is only part of the truth.

Ji-hwan’s death becomes one of the central mysteries connecting Yeo-ri, Min-hwan and prosecutor Ma Gang-uk.

Is Ji-hwan the Ghost Haunting Yeo-ri?

    Yes.

Ji-hwan is the mysterious ghost associated with Yeo-ri’s past.

The drama gives viewers clues long before explaining everything directly.

One of the most obvious is water.

Ji-hwan died in the sea, and his supernatural appearances are repeatedly associated with water.

This is why some of the early haunting scenes feel different from Yeo-ri’s encounters with ordinary ghosts.

Ji-hwan is not simply another spirit asking Yeo-ri to solve a problem.

He belongs to her own unresolved past.

And unlike many of the other ghosts Yeo-ri encounters, he has remained connected to her for 12 years.

    That immediately creates another question.

    Why hasn’t he left?

Why Does Ji-hwan Haunt Yeo-ri for 12 Years?

At first, jealousy seems like a reasonable explanation.

Ji-hwan appears to interfere with Yeo-ri’s romantic life.

When another man attempts to become engaged to her, terrifying supernatural events drive him away.

That makes Ji-hwan look like the classic jealous ghost:

a dead man who cannot accept that the woman he cared about is moving on.

    But then something strange happens.

    Ma Gang-uk enters Yeo-ri’s life.

Gang-uk becomes increasingly close to her.

If Ji-hwan simply wanted to prevent Yeo-ri from loving another man, Gang-uk should become his biggest target.

Instead, Ji-hwan does not treat him the same way.

That was one of the biggest clues that jealousy was never the full explanation.

Ji-hwan’s connection to Gang-uk is different.

    And eventually we discover why.

    Was Ji-hwan Protecting Yeo-ri?

    Ultimately, yes.

But the drama deliberately makes his intentions ambiguous at first.

Some of Ji-hwan’s supernatural actions look frightening.

That makes Yeo-ri — and the audience — question whether he is protecting her or trapping her inside the past.

The finale changes the meaning of those earlier scenes.

Ji-hwan’s final actions show that he does not want Yeo-ri to remain imprisoned by guilt.

    He wants her to live.

He wants her to return to Gang-uk.

And most importantly, he is finally willing to leave her.

That means the ghost who initially appeared to prevent Yeo-ri from moving forward eventually becomes the person who allows her to move forward completely.

Ji-hwan Did Not Simply Die in an Accident

This is where the ghost mystery connects to the crime mystery.

For much of the drama, everyone believes Ji-hwan died because of the yacht accident.

That is not the whole truth.

The later episodes reveal what actually happened between Ji-hwan and Min-hwan.

During their confrontation on the yacht, Ji-hwan fell overboard.

    Min-hwan initially grabbed him.

He could have continued trying to save him.

Instead, Min-hwan deliberately released Ji-hwan’s hand.

Ji-hwan fell into the water and died.

This is crucial to understanding why his spirit could not simply disappear.

His death contained an unresolved truth.

The world believed one version of what happened.

    Ji-hwan knew another.

His death was not merely a tragic accident.

    Someone made a choice.

And the truth remained buried for 12 years.

Why Did Min-hwan Let Ji-hwan Die?

Min-hwan had spent years carrying resentment toward Ji-hwan.

As the adopted son of the family, he believed his parents favored their biological son.

Ji-hwan represented everything Min-hwan believed had been denied to him:

    belonging,

    recognition,

    inheritance,

and his place inside the family.

When Ji-hwan fell from the yacht, Min-hwan faced a horrifying choice.

For a moment, Ji-hwan’s life was literally in his hands.

    And he let go.

That single decision becomes the hidden crime underneath much of Spooky in Love.

The yacht accident therefore connects the drama’s supernatural story with its family and inheritance conflict.

Ji-hwan is not only Yeo-ri’s ghost.

He is also the victim of the secret that Min-hwan has spent years hiding.

Why Is Ji-hwan Connected to Gang-uk?

This is the drama’s biggest supernatural connection.

    Gang-uk received Ji-hwan’s heart.

After Ji-hwan died, his heart was transplanted into Ma Gang-uk.

Suddenly, several strange connections begin to make sense.

Gang-uk was not simply a random prosecutor who happened to enter Yeo-ri’s life.

Part of Ji-hwan literally continued living inside him.

That does not mean Gang-uk is Ji-hwan reincarnated.

    They are separate people.

Gang-uk’s feelings for Yeo-ri are his own.

But the heart transplant creates a symbolic and supernatural bridge between Yeo-ri’s past and future.

Ji-hwan belongs to the life she lost.

Gang-uk represents the life she may still be able to have.

And Ji-hwan’s heart connects those two worlds.

    Did Ji-hwan Want Gang-uk and Yeo-ri Together?

The finale strongly answers this question.

    Yes.

Ji-hwan does not try to take Gang-uk’s place.

    He does the opposite.

When Yeo-ri stands between life and death after the truck accident, Ji-hwan finally meets her directly.

This moment resolves the misunderstanding that has haunted Yeo-ri for years.

She has carried guilt over Ji-hwan’s death.

He died after going into the water to save her.

For Yeo-ri, surviving meant living with the feeling that someone else had died because she lived.

Ji-hwan finally releases her from that burden.

And rather than asking Yeo-ri to remain with him, he encourages her to return.

    To Gang-uk.

    To life.

    Why Can Yeo-ri See Ghosts?

Ji-hwan is also connected to another mystery:

Why could Yeo-ri see ghosts at all?

The finale reveals that Yeo-ri’s supernatural ability is tied to what happened during the accident 12 years earlier.

Yeo-ri should have crossed the boundary between life and death.

But Ji-hwan’s fate and her survival became intertwined.

From then on, she existed with an unusual connection to the dead.

That is why seeing ghosts is not simply a random magical power given to the heroine.

    It comes with a cost.

For 12 years, Yeo-ri has lived partly connected to a world she was not supposed to see.

She helps restless spirits resolve their unfinished business.

But she is also carrying her own unfinished connection to Ji-hwan.

Why Does Yeo-ri Stop Seeing Ghosts at the End?

    Because Ji-hwan finally leaves.

After Yeo-ri is hit by the truck while saving Gang-uk, she falls into a coma and enters a space between life and death.

There she encounters the spirits she has helped over the years.

    Then Ji-hwan appears.

This time, his role is no longer mysterious.

He prevents Yeo-ri from crossing over.

Instead, Ji-hwan boards the boat and leaves.

Yeo-ri returns to the living world.

And after Ji-hwan finally crosses over, her ability to see ghosts disappears.

The supernatural connection that began 12 years earlier is finally broken.

    Yeo-ri wakes up free.

Why Is Ji-hwan’s Final Goodbye So Important?

Because it reverses the meaning of his entire storyline.

At the beginning, Ji-hwan seems like the ghost preventing Yeo-ri from living normally.

At the end, he is the ghost who gives her normal life back.

At first, his presence appears frightening.

At the end, it becomes an act of love.

Most importantly, Ji-hwan does not ask Yeo-ri to continue mourning him.

He tells her, in effect, to live.

That is what makes his farewell more than a supernatural plot resolution.

For 12 years, Yeo-ri’s relationship with the dead has been connected to guilt.

    She survived.

    Ji-hwan did not.

The finale finally allows her to understand that survival is not something she needs to apologize for.

Ji-hwan’s Ghost Explains the Entire Story

Once the finale reveals the truth, Ji-hwan becomes the character connecting almost every major part of Spooky in Love.

His death connects him to Min-hwan’s crime.

His donated heart connects him to Gang-uk.

His lingering spirit connects him to Yeo-ri’s ability to see ghosts.

His unresolved death connects the supernatural mystery to the yacht accident.

And his final departure allows Yeo-ri and Gang-uk to live without the curse that has separated her from ordinary human contact for years.

Ji-hwan therefore was never just “the ghost haunting Yeo-ri.”

He was the bridge between her past and her future.

So Why Did Ji-hwan Really Haunt Yeo-ri?

    The simplest answer is:

Ji-hwan remained because both his death and Yeo-ri’s survival were unfinished.

His death contained a hidden crime.

Yeo-ri carried guilt she could not release.

His heart continued living inside Gang-uk.

And Yeo-ri remained connected to the spirit world.

Only when the truth about Ji-hwan’s death is exposed and Yeo-ri reaches the boundary between life and death can their connection finally end.

Ji-hwan does not take her with him.

    He lets her go.

    And then he leaves too.

That is the final twist in the ghost story at the center of Spooky in Love:

The ghost Yeo-ri feared was not ultimately trying to keep her among the dead.

He was waiting until he could finally send her back to the living.
